AN ACT concerning civil law.
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
represented in the General Assembly:
Section 5. The Mechanics Lien Act is amended by changing
Section 6 as follows:
(770 ILCS 60/6) (from Ch. 82, par. 6)
Sec. 6. In no event shall it be necessary to fix or
stipulate in any contract a time for the the completion or a
time for payment in order to obtain a lien under this act,
provided, that the work is done or material furnished within
three years from the commencement of said work or the
commencement of furnishing said material in the case of work
done or material furnished as to residential property; and
within 5 years from the commencement of said work or the
commencement of furnishing said material in the case of work
done or material furnished as to any other type of property.
The changes made by this amendatory Act of the 97th General
Assembly become inoperative 3 years after the effective date of
this amendatory Act of the 97th General Assembly.
