| 1 | AN ACT concerning transportation.
| |||||||||||||||||||
| 2 | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
| |||||||||||||||||||
| 3 | represented in the General Assembly:
| |||||||||||||||||||
| 4 | Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by changing | |||||||||||||||||||
| 5 | Section 3-658 as follows:
| |||||||||||||||||||
| 6 | (625 ILCS 5/3-658)
| |||||||||||||||||||
| 7 | Sec. 3-658. Professional Sports Teams license plates.
| |||||||||||||||||||
| 8 | (a) The Secretary, upon receipt of an application made in | |||||||||||||||||||
| 9 | the form
prescribed by the Secretary, may issue special | |||||||||||||||||||
| 10 | registration plates designated
as Professional Sports Teams | |||||||||||||||||||
| 11 | license plates. The special plates issued under
this Section
| |||||||||||||||||||
| 12 | shall be affixed only to passenger vehicles of the first | |||||||||||||||||||
| 13 | division, motorcycles, and motor
vehicles of the second | |||||||||||||||||||
| 14 | division weighing not more than 8,000 pounds. Plates
issued | |||||||||||||||||||
| 15 | under this Section shall expire according to the multi-year | |||||||||||||||||||
| 16 | procedure
established by Section 3-414.1 of this Code.

| 17 | (b) The design and color of the plates is wholly within the | |||||||||||||||||||
| 18 | discretion of
the Secretary, except that the plates shall, | |||||||||||||||||||
| 19 | subject to the permission of the
applicable team owner, display | |||||||||||||||||||
| 20 | the logo of the Chicago Bears, the Chicago
Bulls, the Chicago | |||||||||||||||||||
| 21 | Blackhawks, the Chicago Cubs, the
Chicago White Sox, the | |||||||||||||||||||
| 22 | Chicago Fire, the Chicago Red Stars, the St. Louis Rams, or the | |||||||||||||||||||
| 23 | St. Louis Cardinals, at the
applicant's option. The Secretary | |||||||||||||||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | may allow the plates to be issued as vanity
or personalized | ||||||
| 2 | plates under Section 3-405.1 of the Code. The Secretary shall
| ||||||
| 3 | prescribe stickers or decals as provided under Section 3-412 of | ||||||
| 4 | this Code.
| ||||||
| 5 | (c) An applicant for the special plate shall be charged a | ||||||
| 6 | $40 fee for
original issuance in addition to the appropriate | ||||||
| 7 | registration fee. Of this
fee, $25 shall be deposited into the | ||||||
| 8 | Professional Sports Teams Education Fund
and $15 shall be | ||||||
| 9 | deposited into the Secretary of State Special License Plate
| ||||||
| 10 | Fund, to be used by the Secretary to help defray the | ||||||
| 11 | administrative processing
costs.
| ||||||
| 12 | For each registration renewal period, a $27 fee, in | ||||||
| 13 | addition to the
appropriate registration fee, shall be charged. | ||||||
| 14 | Of this fee, $25 shall be
deposited into the Professional | ||||||
| 15 | Sports Teams Education Fund and $2 shall be
deposited into the | ||||||
| 16 | Secretary of State Special License Plate Fund.
| ||||||
| 17 | (d) The Professional Sports Teams Education Fund is created | ||||||
| 18 | as a special
fund in the State treasury. The Comptroller shall | ||||||
| 19 | order transferred and the Treasurer shall transfer all moneys | ||||||
| 20 | in the Professional Sports Teams Education Fund to the Common | ||||||
| 21 | School Fund every 6 months.
