Bill Title: Amends the State Police Act. Provides that the Illinois State Police shall pay directly (rather than directly or reimburse), up to a maximum of $20,000, the burial expenses of each State police officer who is killed in the line of duty. Provides that the payment shall be made to the widow or widower, other dependent, next of kin, or the person or persons incurring the expenses of the burial. Effective immediately.

SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
20 ILCS 2610/12.2

Amends the State Police Act. Provides that the Illinois State Police shall pay directly (rather than directly or reimburse), up to a maximum of $20,000, the burial expenses of each State police officer who is killed in the line of duty. 1 AN ACT concerning State government.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The State Police Act is amended by changing
5Section 12.2 as follows:
6 (20 ILCS 2610/12.2)
7 Sec. 12.2. Burial benefit for State police officers killed
8in the line of duty.
9 (a) The Illinois Department of State Police shall pay
10directly or reimburse, up to a maximum of $20,000, the burial
11expenses of each State police officer who is killed in the line
12of duty after June 30, 2018. The payment shall be made to the
13widow or widower, other dependent, next of kin, or the person
14or persons incurring the expenses of the burial.
15 (b) The payments provided for in this Section shall be paid
16out of moneys appropriated to the Illinois State Police
17Department for the personal services of State police officers.
18 (c) The Illinois Department of State Police shall adopt
19rules governing the administration of this Section.
