Bill Title: Amends the State Commemorative Dates Act. Designates May 17th of each year as Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) Awareness Day to be observed throughout the State as a day to encourage the people of Illinois to help increase public awareness of this particularly aggressive form of cancer affecting children.

AN ACT concerning government.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
| ||||
represented in the General Assembly:
| ||||
Section 5. The State Commemorative Dates Act is amended by | ||||
adding Section 133 as follows:

Sec. 133. Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) | ||||
Awareness Day. May 17th of each year is designated as Diffuse | ||||
Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) Awareness Day. Brain tumors are | ||||
the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in children, and | ||||
DIPG is a highly aggressive brain tumor that affects roughly | ||||
300 children a year in the United States. DIPG Awareness Day is | ||||
to be observed throughout the State as a day to encourage the | ||||
people of Illinois to help increase public awareness of this | ||||
particularly aggressive form of cancer affecting children.
