Bill Title: Amends the Criminal Code of 2012. Provides that it is a Class A misdemeanor for a person to knowingly use a false academic degree, or an academic degree issued under false pretenses, for the purpose of either obtaining employment, obtaining admission to an institution of higher learning, obtaining admission to an advanced degree program at an institution of higher learning, or for the purpose of obtaining a promotion or higher compensation in employment (rather than knowingly use a false academic degree for the purpose of obtaining employment or admission to an institution of higher learning or admission to an advanced degree program at an institution of higher learning or for the purpose of obtaining a promotion or higher compensation in employment).

| 2 | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

| 4 | Section 5. The Criminal Code of 2012 is amended by changing | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 5 | Section 17-8.3 as follows:

| 10 | (a) It is unlawful for an applicant for employment with a | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 11 | public or private
agency that provides State funded services to | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 12 | persons with mental illness or
developmental disabilities to | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 13 | knowingly furnish false information regarding
professional | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 14 | certification, licensing, criminal background, or employment
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 15 | history for the 5 years immediately preceding the date of | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 16 | application
on an
application for
employment with the agency if | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 17 | the position of employment requires or provides
opportunity for | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 18 | contact with persons with mental illness or developmental
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 19 | disabilities.
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 20 | (b) It is unlawful for a person to knowingly use a false | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

| 4 | (c) Sentence. A violation of this Section is a Class A | ||||||
| 5 | misdemeanor.
