| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to recognize the Polish Museum of America, | ||||||
| 4 | one of the oldest ethnic museums in the United States; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, In 1931, a fire destroyed the Polish Library and | ||||||
| 6 | National Museum at Alliance College in
Cambridge Springs, | ||||||
| 7 | Pennsylvania; the Polish-American community began
looking for | ||||||
| 8 | a new venue in the United States that would both promote Polish | ||||||
| 9 | culture and history and the Polish presence in North America; | ||||||
| 10 | and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, The Polish Museum of America was established in | ||||||
| 12 | 1935 and officially opened its doors on January 12, 1937 as the | ||||||
| 13 | Museum and Archives of the Polish Roman Catholic Union of
| ||||||
| 14 | America; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, The Polish Museum of America is located in the | ||||||
| 16 | heart of Chicago's historic Polish Downtown, a neighborhood | ||||||
| 17 | that functions as Polish America's cultural capital; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, The Polish Museum of America promotes the | ||||||
| 19 | knowledge of Polish history and culture by offering paintings, | ||||||
| 20 | sculptures, drawings, and
lithographs by well-known artists; | ||||||
| 21 | it offers exhibits such as
lectures, movies and slide | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | presentations, theater performances, and meetings with schools | ||||||
| 2 | and
people from all over the world who are dedicated to Polish | ||||||
| 3 | Culture; and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, The Polish Museum of America serves as the focus | ||||||
| 5 | of official commemorations of Casimir
Pulaski Day, where | ||||||
| 6 | various city and State officials congregate to pay tribute to | ||||||
| 7 | Chicago's Polish
Community; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 8 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 9 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 10 | recognize the Polish Museum of America and we wish them many | ||||||
| 11 | more successful years; and be it further
| ||||||
| 12 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 13 | presented to the Polish Museum of America as a symbol of our | ||||||
| 14 | respect and esteem.
