2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Ronald L. | ||||||
4 | Allen of Naperville, who passed away on December 2, 2016; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Ronald Allen was born in Chicago on July 18, 1943; | ||||||
6 | and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Ronald Allen founded the A. Allen Insurance Agency | ||||||
8 | in Chicago's Austin community after graduating from Chicago | ||||||
9 | State University; he had previously worked for the United | ||||||
10 | States Postal Service and as a business teacher at King High | ||||||
11 | School in Chicago; he was one of the first African American | ||||||
12 | insurance agents for the Allstate Insurance Co. in Chicago, and | ||||||
13 | maintained an affiliation with them for 42 years, retiring in | ||||||
14 | 2009; and

15 | WHEREAS, Ronald Allen was a social activist in DuPage | ||||||
16 | County; he spent his retirement active in the DuPage County | ||||||
17 | Democratic Party and founded the Unity Partnership outreach | ||||||
18 | group to foster trust and goodwill between police and county | ||||||
19 | residents; he served as a precinct committeeman in Naperville | ||||||
20 | Township and was an active member of the DuPage County NAACP; | ||||||

1 | WHEREAS, Ronald Allen was an active member of the DuPage | ||||||
2 | AME Church in Lisle and served on the DuPage Diversity steering | ||||||
3 | committee; he served on the DuPage County Crime Stoppers Board | ||||||
4 | of Directors, the Chicago State University Alumni Board, and | ||||||
5 | the National African American Insurance Association Board of | ||||||
6 | Directors; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Ronald Allen hosted his own radio show, "The | ||||||
8 | Financial Forum", that aired on WVON-AM; he enjoyed the game of | ||||||
9 | Whist so much that in 2014 he wrote a book, "The Evolution of | ||||||
10 | Bid Whist", which not only offered playing strategy but traced | ||||||
11 | the history of the game to the Civil War; he was an avid | ||||||
12 | Chicago Cubs fan; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Ronald Allen is survived by his wife, Carol; his | ||||||
14 | children, Keith, Mark, and Vera; and his granddaughter, | ||||||
15 | Jasmine; therefore, be it
| ||||||
16 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
17 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
18 | mourn the passing of Ronald L. Allen, and extend our sincere | ||||||
19 | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
20 | him; and be it further

21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
22 | presented to the family of Ronald Allen as an expression of our |
