2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Mother | ||||||
4 | Letha West, who passed away on October 13, 2016; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Letha West was born on July 13, 1916 in Crystal | ||||||
6 | Springs, Mississippi; her parents were Louella and Green | ||||||
7 | Lofton; she married William West, Jr. on June 15, 1940; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Letha West was educated in Greenville, | ||||||
9 | Mississippi, where she received her elementary and secondary | ||||||
10 | education certificates; in the late 1940s, she and her husband | ||||||
11 | moved to Chicago, where they became members of Zion Hill | ||||||
12 | Missionary Baptist Church in 1948; she worked diligently at | ||||||
13 | Zion Hill on the Nurses Board and the Mother's Board; she also | ||||||
14 | enjoyed Sunday school; and

15 | WHEREAS, Letha West worked in manufacturing at John E. Fast & | ||||||
16 | Company for over 25 years, where she developed condensers | ||||||
17 | until her retirement; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Letha West was preceded in death by her parents | ||||||
19 | and her siblings, David Lofton, Sr. (Becky), Neasie Lofton | ||||||
20 | Price (Riley), and Mother Pinkie Lee (James) Ward; and

1 | WHEREAS, Letha West is survived by her daughters, Doris | ||||||
2 | Vernell and Shirley Ann; her sons-in-law, Charles Myhand and | ||||||

4 | Penner; her sister, Arveal "Pat" (Julius) Scott; her | ||||||
5 | grandchildren, Kuchambi Charles (Laurie) Myhand, Osayande | ||||||
6 | William Myhand, Shomari Abasi Myhand, Amma Letha Antwi-Barfi, | ||||||
7 | and Adwoa Victoria Antwi-Barfi; her great-granddaughter, Nandi | ||||||

19 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
20 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
21 | we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of | ||||||
22 | Mother Letha West; and be it further

23 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
24 | presented to the family of Letha West as an expression of our |
