HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Jan Lee
4Ray of Arthur, who passed away on January 1, 2013; and
5 WHEREAS, Jan Ray was born on September 24, 1949, in
6Decatur; his parents were Willis "Dude" and Helen Jane (Piper)
7Ray; he married Margaret Alice Elder on July 17, 1970, in
8Sullivan; and
9 WHEREAS, Jan Ray served on the Douglas County 911 Board and
10had served as Bourbon Township Supervisor, Arthur Chief of
11Police, and Arthur Village Administrator for several years; he
12served with the Arthur Volunteer Fire Department for over 40
13years and was a past chief of the department; he also served as
14an Arthur Fire Protection District trustee; and
15 WHEREAS, Jan Ray was a member of the Vine Street Christian
16Church and served as a church elder and moderator; he was also
17a member of the Arthur Masonic Lodge and the Kaskaskia Country
18Club; and
19 WHEREAS, Jan Ray was an avid promoter of the Arthur
20Athletics for several years and served as coach for many
21baseball teams, softball teams, and football teams; he also

1served as the announcer of home football games for several
2years; and
3 WHEREAS, Jan Ray was preceded in death by his parents; his
4son, Jason Ray; and his sister, Jackie Lauterjung; and
5 WHEREAS, Jan Ray is survived by his wife, Alice Ray; his
6daughter, Janet Ray; his grandchildren, Madeline, Lauren, and
7Vincent Ray; and his brother, Jerry Ray (Gwen); therefore, be
8it
9 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
10NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
11we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Jan
12Lee Ray; and be it further
13 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Jan Ray as an expression of our
15sympathy.
