HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to recognize Illinois State
4Representative Timothy L. Schmitz on his 14 years of service
5and hard work on behalf of the people of the State of Illinois;
6and
7 WHEREAS, Representative Schmitz, a fourth generation
8resident of Kane County and lifelong resident of Batavia, was
9one of the youngest elected members in the Illinois General
10Assembly when he was first elected to the House of
11Representatives in 1999; and
12 WHEREAS, Prior to his election to the Illinois House of
13Representatives, Representative Schmitz served on the City of
14Batavia Plan Commission and as a City of Batavia Alderman; he
15was also a Policy Analyst for the Illinois House of
16Representatives; and
17 WHEREAS, As an alumnus of the Bowhay Institute for
18Legislative Leadership Development and a Toll Fellow of the
19Council of State Governments, Representative Schmitz's peers
20recognized his leadership and elected him to serve as an
21Assistant Republican Leader, and later as Deputy Republican
22Leader; and

1 WHEREAS, Representative Schmitz has served with
2distinction as Co-Chairman of the Joint Committee on
3Administrative Rules, where he has helped scrutinize
4controversial administrative rules dealing with a wide variety
5of challenges to public policymakers; he has also served as
6Republican Spokesperson for the Housing Committee, and as a
7member of the Human Services, Labor & Commerce, and
8Transportation: Regulation, Roads & Bridges Committees; and
9 WHEREAS, Representative Schmitz has received numerous
10awards from organizations throughout his career as a lawmaker,
11including Legislator of the Year from the Metro West Council of
12Government, the Friends of Fairness Award from the Illinois
13Civil Justice League, Outstanding Legislator from the Illinois
14Bankers Association, the Recognition Award from the Illinois
15Fire Safety Alliance, the Legislative Award from the Associated
16Firefighters of Illinois, Champion of Free Enterprise from the
17Illinois Chamber of Commerce, Farthest Under 40 from Augustana
18College, and Friend of Agriculture from the Illinois
19Agricultural Association; and
20 WHEREAS, Representative Schmitz is a recipient of the Red
21Cross Hometown Heroes award, and he received the Fireman of the
22Year award in 2005; and

1 WHEREAS, Representative Schmitz earned his degree in
2Public Administration and Political Science from Augustana
3College, where he met his wife, Julianne, and together they
4reside in Batavia with their children, Alex and Ryan; and
5 WHEREAS, In addition to the commitments of being a husband,
6father, and elected official, Representative Schmitz has
7remained a firefighter and emergency medical technician with
8the Batavia Fire Department, a position he has held since 1984;
9therefore, be it
10 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
12we congratulate our friend and colleague, Representative
13Timothy L. Schmitz, on his retirement from the Illinois of
14House of Representatives and wish him the best in his future
15endeavors; and be it further
16 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to Representative Schmitz as a symbol of our respect
18and esteem.
