HOUSE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
Representatives are pleased to recognize Illinois State
Representative Timothy L. Schmitz on his 14 years of service
and hard work on behalf of the people of the State of Illinois;
and
WHEREAS, Representative Schmitz, a fourth generation
resident of Kane County and lifelong resident of Batavia, was
one of the youngest elected members in the Illinois General
Assembly when he was first elected to the House of
Representatives in 1999; and
WHEREAS, Prior to his election to the Illinois House of
Representatives, Representative Schmitz served on the City of
Batavia Plan Commission and as a City of Batavia Alderman; he
was also a Policy Analyst for the Illinois House of
Representatives; and
WHEREAS, As an alumnus of the Bowhay Institute for
Legislative Leadership Development and a Toll Fellow of the
Council of State Governments, Representative Schmitz's peers
recognized his leadership and elected him to serve as an
Assistant Republican Leader, and later as Deputy Republican
Leader; and

WHEREAS, Representative Schmitz has served with
distinction as Co-Chairman of the Joint Committee on
Administrative Rules, where he has helped scrutinize
controversial administrative rules dealing with a wide variety
of challenges to public policymakers; he has also served as
Republican Spokesperson for the Housing Committee, and as a
member of the Human Services, Labor & Commerce, and
Transportation: Regulation, Roads & Bridges Committees; and
WHEREAS, Representative Schmitz has received numerous
awards from organizations throughout his career as a lawmaker,
including Legislator of the Year from the Metro West Council of
Government, the Friends of Fairness Award from the Illinois
Civil Justice League, Outstanding Legislator from the Illinois
Bankers Association, the Recognition Award from the Illinois
Fire Safety Alliance, the Legislative Award from the Associated
Firefighters of Illinois, Champion of Free Enterprise from the
Illinois Chamber of Commerce, Farthest Under 40 from Augustana
College, and Friend of Agriculture from the Illinois
Agricultural Association; and
WHEREAS, Representative Schmitz is a recipient of the Red
Cross Hometown Heroes award, and he received the Fireman of the
Year award in 2005; and

WHEREAS, Representative Schmitz earned his degree in
Public Administration and Political Science from Augustana
College, where he met his wife, Julianne, and together they
reside in Batavia with their children, Alex and Ryan; and
WHEREAS, In addition to the commitments of being a husband,
father, and elected official, Representative Schmitz has
remained a firefighter and emergency medical technician with
the Batavia Fire Department, a position he has held since 1984;
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
we congratulate our friend and colleague, Representative
Timothy L. Schmitz, on his retirement from the Illinois of
House of Representatives and wish him the best in his future
endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to Representative Schmitz as a symbol of our respect
and esteem.
