2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of
U.S. | ||||||
4 | Marine Corps Lance Corporal Robert J. Newton of Creve Coeur, | ||||||
5 | who passed away on August 23, 2010 while supporting combat | ||||||
6 | operations in Afghanistan; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, LCpl. Robert Newton graduated from East Peoria | ||||||
8 | Community High School in 2007; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, LCpl. Robert Newton served his country with pride | ||||||
10 | and distinction as a member of the United States Marine Corps | ||||||
11 | since June of 2007; he was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 7th | ||||||
12 | Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division of the I Marine | ||||||
13 | Expeditionary Force based at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat | ||||||
14 | Center Twentynine Palms, California; he was on his 2nd combat | ||||||
15 | deployment at the time of his passing; and

16 | WHEREAS, LCpl. Robert Newton was the recipient of numerous | ||||||
17 | decorations for his service, including the Purple Heart, the | ||||||
18 | Combat Action Ribbon, the Navy Presidential Unit Citation, the | ||||||
19 | Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service | ||||||
20 | Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, | ||||||
21 | the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Sea Service | ||||||
22 | Deployment Ribbon, and the NATO Medal; and

1 | WHEREAS, LCpl. Robert Newton was affectionately known as RJ | ||||||
2 | by his family and friends; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, LCpl. Robert Newton is survived by his parents, | ||||||
4 | Richard and Denise Newton; and his sister, Breanna; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, LCpl. Robert Newton's patriotism and courage will | ||||||
6 | be remembered fondly by his loving family, his fellow soldiers, | ||||||
7 | and the citizens of our grateful nation; therefore, be it
| ||||||
8 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
9 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
10 | mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Lance | ||||||
11 | Corporal Robert J. Newton; and be it further
| ||||||
12 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
13 | presented to the family of LCpl. Robert Newton as an expression | ||||||
14 | of our sympathy.
