HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to honor the life and legacy of Rolando
4Juan Correa; and
5 WHEREAS, Rolando Correa was born in Manati, Puerto Rico and
6moved to Chicago at the age of eight; overcoming the grim
7obstacles of urban disparity, he was awarded an ASPIRA
8scholarship to pursue higher education in Puerto Rico; and
9 WHEREAS, Rolando Correa proudly served in Vietnam with the
10United States Army as a door gunner, protecting medical
11helicopters as they evacuated wounded soldiers; and
12 WHEREAS, Rolando Correa managed one of the first
13registration campaign drives of Latino voters in Chicago and
14was known for his tireless support of the careers of many
15elected officials; in the summer of 1980, during his tenure
16with the Puerto Rican Parade Committee, he was instrumental in
17bringing las fiestas patronales to Humboldt Park; he also
18worked for Cook County, the City of Chicago, and the State of
19Illinois; and
20 WHEREAS, After serving for more than 43 combined years as a
21co-founder, staff member, and Board member, Rolando Correa was

1appointed to serve as Executive Director of Rincon Family
2Services in 2005; he was later selected to serve as Rincon's
3President and CEO in 2013; and
4 WHEREAS, Rolando Correa's passion and dedication to
5managing Rincon and advocating for those the organization
6serves has created an environment of respect, caring, and
7compassion for the clients and staff; under his leadership,
8Rincon's organizational budget, staffing, and community
9presence have more than doubled in the last three years;
10numerous programs have been expanded and created, including the
11Community Health Promotoras Program at Rincon's "Hilda
12Frontany Women's Center", the Intact Family Recovery Program,
13the Chicago Drive Safe Coalition, the Chicago Regional Traffic
14Safety Resource Center, the HIV Early Intervention Program, the
15reEntry Program, anger management, gambling, and
16State-licensed DUI services, and mental health treatment and
17prevention services; and
18 WHEREAS, In order to provide a continuum of care for
19Rincon's current clients and open services to the Latino aging
20population, Rolando Correa strategically developed a
21comprehensive in-home care services for the elderly; Rincon now
22offers Senior Health Insurance Program counseling and conducts
23translation and interpreter services for Managed Care
24Organizations for their Spanish-speaking participants in need

1of in-home care; and
2 WHEREAS, Rolando Correa and his wife of 44 years, Graciela,
3had two children, Rolando, Jr. and Cristina, and five
4grandchildren; and
5 WHEREAS, Rolando Correa will be remembered fondly for his
6dedication to creating an environment of respect and compassion
7for all he encountered, his commitment to the city's most
8vulnerable populations, and his role as a devoted guardian of
9the communities he loved; therefore, be it
10 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
12honor the life and legacy of Rolando Juan Correa and pay
13tribute to his work in the City of Chicago and beyond; and be
14it further
15 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Rolando Juan Correa as a symbol of
17our esteem and respect.
