| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Representative Jerry | ||||||
| 4 | Mitchell on his retirement from the Illinois House; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Rep. Jerry Mitchell began serving in the Illinois | ||||||
| 6 | House in 1995; after he completes his final term, he will have | ||||||
| 7 | served 9 terms as state representative; he represents the 90th | ||||||
| 8 | district, which includes all of Lee County and portions of | ||||||
| 9 | Ogle, Whiteside, and Henry counties; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Rep. Jerry Mitchell has been a relentless advocate | ||||||
| 11 | for schools and education; he has been a champion of charter | ||||||
| 12 | schools and their expansion in the State; he was the Republican | ||||||
| 13 | spokesperson for the elementary and secondary education | ||||||
| 14 | committees for numerous years; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Rep. Jerry Mitchell has had a long career in | ||||||
| 16 | education, serving as a teacher, coach, athletic director, | ||||||
| 17 | principal, assistant superintendent, and superintendent; he | ||||||
| 18 | graduated with a bachelor's of science from Eureka College in | ||||||
| 19 | 1968, and earned a masters' in education administration from | ||||||
| 20 | Illinois State University in 1974; he received an education | ||||||
| 21 | specialist degree from Western Illinois University in 1992; he | ||||||
| 22 | served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1960-1964; and

| 1 | WHEREAS, Rep. Jerry Mitchell has received numerous awards | ||||||
| 2 | acknowledging his commitment to the citizens of his district, | ||||||
| 3 | including the Friends of Agriculture Award from the Illinois | ||||||
| 4 | Agriculture Association, the Reader's Choice Award for | ||||||
| 5 | "Favorite Politician" by Sauk Valley Newspaper from 2001-2008, | ||||||
| 6 | the "Champion of Free Enterprise" by the Illinois Chamber of | ||||||
| 7 | Commerce in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, and 2010, and in 2008, he | ||||||
| 8 | was named Legislator of the Year by the Illinois School | ||||||
| 9 | Counselors Association; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Rep. Jerry Mitchell is married to Jan, and is a | ||||||
| 11 | father of three, with three grandchildren; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 12 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 13 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 14 | we congratulate Rep. Jerry Mitchell on his retirement from the | ||||||
| 15 | Illinois House of Representatives and wish him much success in | ||||||
| 16 | his future endeavors; and be it further
| ||||||
| 17 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 18 | presented to Rep. Jerry Mitchell as an expression of our | ||||||
| 19 | respect and esteem.
