| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to recognize the 50th anniversary of the | ||||||
| 4 | Poplar Creek Public Library District; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, The Poplar Creek Public Library was founded in | ||||||
| 6 | 1966 in two garages, one being fiction, the other
being | ||||||
| 7 | nonfiction; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, The Poplar Creek Library was originally located in | ||||||
| 9 | a storefront; between the years of 1969 and 1975, it increased
| ||||||
| 10 | to four storefronts, and the
number of hours it was open | ||||||
| 11 | increased to 66 hours per week; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, After the
Poplar Creek Library converted to a | ||||||
| 13 | district, it began offering services to Hanover Park; one year | ||||||
| 14 | later, construction began for a new building
located on Park | ||||||
| 15 | Avenue; in 1980, the library became a government
depository for | ||||||
| 16 | federal and State documents; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, In 1991, a modular unit became
the branch in | ||||||
| 18 | Hanover Park; in 2006, it was named the Sonya Crawshaw
Branch | ||||||
| 19 | in honor of the late President of Hanover Park; and
| ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, A referendum was passed in 2007 to enlarge the | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | main library to its current size; the new
library was opened in | ||||||
| 2 | 2009; its modern design has won architecture awards
and been | ||||||
| 3 | used in the popular television series, "Empire", as a location
| ||||||
| 4 | setting; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, The 50th anniversary celebration of the Poplar | ||||||
| 6 | Creek Public Library District will be held on September 24, | ||||||
| 7 | 2016 at the Poplar Creek Public Library; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 8 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 9 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 10 | wish to recognize the 50th anniversary of the Poplar Creek | ||||||
| 11 | Public Library District and wish it many more successful years; | ||||||
| 12 | and be it further
| ||||||
| 13 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 14 | presented to Candace McCreary, President of the Poplar Creek | ||||||
| 15 | Public Library District.
