2 | WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives pays honor and respect to the truly great | ||||||
4 | individuals who have served our country, and in doing so, have | ||||||
5 | gone above and beyond the call of duty; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Lovelace "Ace" Kitchen served as a Sergeant in the | ||||||
7 | United States Army Air Corps with the 556th Bombardment | ||||||
8 | Squadron during World War II; he served as a radio operator and | ||||||
9 | gunner with the AAF 757; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Lovelace Kitchen's overseas battles included | ||||||
11 | those in Central Europe, the Ardennes, and the Rhineland; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Lovelace Kitchen took part in the infamous Battle | ||||||
13 | of the Bulge; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Lovelace Kitchen flew in a Martin B-26 Marauder - | ||||||
15 | a twin engine airplane designed for bombing at a low level; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, During his service, Lovelace Kitchen was awarded 4 | ||||||
17 | Bronze Stars, a Good Conduct Medal, an Air Medal with 2 Oak | ||||||
18 | Leaf Clusters, an American Theatre Campaign Ribbon, a European | ||||||
19 | African-Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Ribbon, 2 Overseas | ||||||
20 | Bars, and a Victory Ribbon; therefore, be it

1 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
2 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
3 | we recognize Lovelace "Ace" Kitchen for his heroic actions | ||||||
4 | during World War II and we thank him for his service to his | ||||||
5 | country; and be it further
| ||||||
6 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
7 | presented to Lovelace Kitchen as an expression of our esteem | ||||||
8 | and respect.
