| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to honor Montgomery
Village President | ||||||
4 | Marilyn Michelini for her decades of dedicated service to her | ||||||
5 | community and
her many achievements as a community leader as | ||||||
6 | she prepares for retirement from public office;
and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS President Michelini's first professional | ||||||
8 | government position began in 1982 when she
agreed to complete | ||||||
9 | the remaining 2 1/2-year term of a retiring board member on the | ||||||
10 | Kane County
Board; in 1987, she was first elected to the board | ||||||
11 | of trustees for the Village of Montgomery;
and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, President Michelini played an active role as a | ||||||
13 | trustee and was the only woman on the board; she earned a | ||||||
14 | reputation for always "doing her homework", thereby gaining the | ||||||
15 | respect of fellow
board members; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, In April 2001, President Michelini was elected | ||||||
17 | Village President; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, President Michelini has had to draw from her many | ||||||
19 | years of professional experience to
manage the great changes | ||||||
20 | taking place in this rapidly growing Village; and

1 | WHEREAS, President Michelini's leadership was instrumental | ||||||
2 | in advancing numerous community
achievements and improvements | ||||||
3 | during her tenure, including: | ||||||
4 | (1) Initiation of a senior program featuring monthly | ||||||
5 | luncheons, presentations, and activities; | ||||||
6 | (2) Acquisition and donation of land to school districts | ||||||
7 | for construction of 2 new elementary
schools in Montgomery; | ||||||
8 | (3) Completion of the Village's Transportation and Access | ||||||
9 | Plan; | ||||||
10 | (4) Approval of numerous annexation agreements covering | ||||||
11 | residential, commercial, and industrial
developments to ensure | ||||||
12 | smart, managed growth; | ||||||
13 | (5) Implementation of a free battery recycling program for | ||||||
14 | residents; | ||||||
15 | (6)
Successful completion by the Historic Preservation | ||||||
16 | Committee of the restoration of Settler's
Cottage; the | ||||||
17 | Settler's Cottage Museum is now open to the public; | ||||||
18 | (7)
Creation of a Beautification Committee that | ||||||
19 | coordinates flower plantings on the bridge,
banners in the | ||||||
20 | downtown, and other beautification efforts; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, During President Michelini's tenure, the Village | ||||||
22 | of Montgomery received many
professional accolades, including: | ||||||
23 | Excellence in Financial Reporting, Excellence in Planning
| ||||||
24 | Award, Award for Strategic Planning, Perfect Fluoride | ||||||
25 | Compliance, Stormwater Management
Award, Naturalized |

| |||||||
1 | Stormwater Management, Outstanding Use of Native Plants; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, President Michelini strove to make Village | ||||||
3 | government more accessible and
responsive, establishing social | ||||||
4 | media sites that allow more interaction with residents and
| ||||||
5 | businesses, conducting monthly "Coffee with the Mayor" | ||||||
6 | meetings, and hosting annual events,
including: a tree lighting | ||||||
7 | ceremony, an open house, a 5K River Run/3K River Walk, and
| ||||||
8 | Montgomery Fest; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Inter-agency cooperation requires active | ||||||
10 | participation on numerous councils and
committees, therefore | ||||||
11 | President Michelini served as a founding member and past | ||||||
12 | president of the
Metro West Council of Government, represented | ||||||
13 | Kane and Kendall Counties on the Chicago
Metropolitan Agency | ||||||
14 | for Planning, and also serves on the Kendall County Mayors and | ||||||
15 | Managers
Association, the National Association of Regional | ||||||
16 | Councils, the Kane County Storm Water
Management Commission, | ||||||
17 | the Fox Valley United Way Board (Community Impact Committee),
| ||||||
18 | and the Kane County Impact Fee Committee (alternate); | ||||||
19 | therefore, be it
| ||||||
20 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
21 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
22 | we honor Montgomery Village President Marilyn Michelini for her | ||||||
23 | service and
achievements on behalf of the residents of the |
| |||||||
| |||||||
1 | Village of Montgomery, and we congratulate her
and wish her a | ||||||
2 | long and happy retirement; and be it further
| ||||||
3 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
4 | presented to President Michelini as an
expression of our esteem | ||||||
5 | and respect.
