| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to recognize the 125th anniversary of the | ||||||
| 4 | founding of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Joliet; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, St. Joseph was founded on May 12, 1891 by | ||||||
| 6 | Slovenian immigrants who came to the area to work in the nearby | ||||||
| 7 | steel mills and settled along Chicago Street; the founding | ||||||
| 8 | members wished to celebrate Mass in their own language and | ||||||
| 9 | culture; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, St. Joseph meets in a historic downtown building; | ||||||
| 11 | constructed in 1905, it is the church's second home; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, The members of St. Joseph are active in their | ||||||
| 13 | community; the church is home to numerous organizations and | ||||||
| 14 | many of its members volunteer at the Shepherd's Table soup | ||||||
| 15 | kitchen and for clothing drives; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, St. Joseph continues to grow; five years ago it | ||||||
| 17 | had a congregation of about 800 families, and as of 2016, that | ||||||
| 18 | number has grown to 860; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 19 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 20 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||

| 1 | recognize the 125th anniversary of the founding of St. Joseph | ||||||
| 2 | Catholic Church and wish it many more successful years; and be | ||||||
| 3 | it further

| 4 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 5 | presented to St. Joseph as an expression of our esteem and | ||||||
| 6 | respect.
