HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to honor our esteemed former
4colleague, State Representative Dan Reitz, on his 14 years as a
5member of the Illinois General Assembly and thank him for his
6dedicated service to his State and his community; and
7 WHEREAS, Representative Reitz was born and raised in
8Randolph County, where he and his wife, Joyce, raised their
9three children, Nathan, Nicholas, and Natalie; and
10 WHEREAS, Representative Reitz served his community as a
11Randolph County Commissioner from 1987 until 1996, serving as
12chairman of the county board, and helped to lead his county
13through the Great Flood of 1993; and
14 WHEREAS, Following the tragic and unexpected death of Rep.
15Terry Deering, Rep. Reitz answered the call of service by
16accepting an appointment as State representative of the 116th
17District; and
18 WHEREAS, Representative Reitz never forgot his roots as a
19coal miner; in the legislature he advocated for investment in
20Illinois' coal industry and offered unwavering support for his
21fellow miners during some of the industry's most difficult

1times; and
2 WHEREAS, Representative Reitz has been a proud advocate for
3hunters and sportsmen; his contribution toward the
4construction of the World Shooting and Recreation Complex in
5Sparta, Illinois, helped to create economic opportunity in the
6region, expanded access to hunting, fishing, and shooting, and
7built a world-class facility where hunters, sportsmen,
8conservationists, and shooting enthusiasts can share
9traditions and pastimes and instill an appreciation for
10Illinois' natural resources with a new generation of sportsmen;
11since 2006, the facility has served as the home of the Amateur
12Trapshooting Association Grand American Trapshooting
13Championships, one of the premier events in shooting sports,
14welcoming over 7,000 sportsmen and 100,000 spectators each
15year; and
16 WHEREAS, Representative Reitz has been a tireless champion
17of Illinois' agricultural community, serving as chairman of the
18Agriculture and Conservation Committee, promoting investment
19in ethanol, protecting farmlands, and consistently making the
20voice of Illinois' farmers heard in Springfield; and
21 WHEREAS, Representative Reitz has been a leading advocate
22for strengthening and maintaining Illinois' levees, preventing
23flooding, and protecting the homes, communities, and security

1of riverfront families; and
2 WHEREAS, All who had the honor to serve alongside
3Representative Reitz will miss his warm friendship and will
4strive to emulate the collegial esteem he brought to this
5chamber; therefore, be it
6 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
7NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
8we congratulate and thank State Representative Dan Reitz for
9his years of dedicated service; and be it further
10 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to Representative Reitz as an expression of our
12respect and esteem, and with our best wishes for his future
13success.
