2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives
are pleased to honor our esteemed former | ||||||
4 | colleague, State
Representative Dan Reitz, on his 14 years as a | ||||||
5 | member of the
Illinois General Assembly and thank him for his | ||||||
6 | dedicated
service to his State and his community; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Representative Reitz was born and raised in | ||||||
8 | Randolph County, where
he and his wife, Joyce, raised their | ||||||
9 | three children, Nathan,
Nicholas, and Natalie; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Representative Reitz served his community as a | ||||||
11 | Randolph
County Commissioner from 1987 until 1996, serving as | ||||||
12 | chairman of
the county board, and helped to lead his county | ||||||
13 | through the
Great Flood of 1993; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Following the tragic and unexpected death of Rep.
| ||||||
15 | Terry Deering, Rep. Reitz answered the call of service by | ||||||
16 | accepting
an appointment as State representative of the 116th | ||||||
17 | District; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Representative Reitz never forgot his roots as a | ||||||
19 | coal
miner; in the legislature he advocated for investment in
| ||||||
20 | Illinois' coal industry and offered unwavering support for his
| ||||||
21 | fellow miners during some of the industry's most difficult

1 | times; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Representative Reitz has been a proud advocate for | ||||||
3 | hunters
and sportsmen; his contribution toward the | ||||||
4 | construction of the
World Shooting and Recreation Complex in | ||||||
5 | Sparta, Illinois, helped
to create economic opportunity in the | ||||||
6 | region, expanded access to
hunting, fishing, and shooting, and | ||||||
7 | built a world-class facility where hunters, sportsmen, | ||||||
8 | conservationists, and shooting
enthusiasts can share | ||||||
9 | traditions and pastimes and instill an
appreciation for | ||||||
10 | Illinois' natural resources with a new
generation of sportsmen; | ||||||
11 | since 2006, the facility has served as
the home of the Amateur | ||||||
12 | Trapshooting Association Grand American
Trapshooting | ||||||
13 | Championships, one of the premier events in
shooting sports, | ||||||
14 | welcoming over 7,000 sportsmen and 100,000
spectators each | ||||||
15 | year; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Representative Reitz has been a tireless champion | ||||||
17 | of
Illinois' agricultural community, serving as chairman of the
| ||||||
18 | Agriculture and Conservation Committee, promoting investment | ||||||
19 | in
ethanol, protecting farmlands, and consistently making the | ||||||
20 | voice
of Illinois' farmers heard in Springfield; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Representative Reitz has been a leading advocate | ||||||
22 | for
strengthening and maintaining Illinois' levees, preventing
| ||||||
23 | flooding, and protecting the homes, communities, and security |
| |||||||
| |||||||
1 | of
riverfront families; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, All who had the honor to serve alongside | ||||||
3 | Representative
Reitz will miss his warm friendship and will | ||||||
4 | strive to emulate
the collegial esteem he brought to this | ||||||
5 | chamber; therefore, be it
| ||||||
6 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
7 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
8 | we congratulate
and thank State Representative Dan Reitz for | ||||||
9 | his years of
dedicated service; and be it further
| ||||||
10 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
11 | presented to Representative Reitz as an expression of our | ||||||
12 | respect and esteem, and with our best wishes for his future | ||||||
13 | success.
