1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, On July 27, 2014, the State of Illinois lost one | ||||||
3 | of its most extraordinary residents when Brooke Whitted passed | ||||||
4 | away; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Brooke Whitted touched the lives of many over his | ||||||
6 | 67 years, but none as significantly as the children who needed | ||||||
7 | special education services and their families; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, From the start of his professional career as a | ||||||
9 | Cook County Juvenile Probation Officer in 1969 through his | ||||||
10 | service as board chairman of the organization that operates the | ||||||
11 | Sonia Shankman Orthogenic School and the Hyde Park Day School | ||||||
12 | to his work with the Illinois School Bullying Prevention Task | ||||||
13 | Force, Brooke Whitted demonstrated a commitment to ensuring | ||||||
14 | that each child was afforded every available program and | ||||||
15 | service that was necessary to help them live their lives to the | ||||||
16 | fullest; and

17 | WHEREAS, Brooke's commitment to the young was further | ||||||
18 | evidenced when he co-founded the Harold and Rosemarie Marx | ||||||
19 | Memorial Fund which both honored the memory of a probation | ||||||
20 | officer colleague and raised funds to allow officers to take | ||||||
21 | children to cultural and entertainment events; and

1 | WHEREAS, Brooke's boundless energy led him to teach | ||||||
2 | psychiatry and the law at the Rush University Medical College | ||||||
3 | and the University of Illinois College of Medicine for many | ||||||
4 | years; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Brooke's dedication to children and families | ||||||
6 | included his service on the Illinois Community and Residential | ||||||
7 | Services Authority, a unique and effective State agency helping | ||||||
8 | Illinois children with complex emotional challenges locate the | ||||||
9 | services they need; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Brooke Whitted leaves Illinois with a legacy of | ||||||
11 | important and lasting achievements that should be a model for | ||||||
12 | all who advocate for children here in the State and across the | ||||||
13 | nation; therefore, be it
| ||||||
14 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
15 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
16 | we mourn the passing of Brooke Whitted and express our | ||||||
17 | sympathies to his wife, Linda, his daughter, Layne, his son, | ||||||
18 | Ross, and the numerous members of his extended family, whom he | ||||||
19 | also loved and supported; and be it further

20 | RESOLVED, That we declare that Illinois is a much better | ||||||
21 | place due to the energy, integrity, intellect, and caring of | ||||||
22 | Brooke Whitted; and be it further

2 | presented to the family of Brooke Whitted as an expression of | ||||||
3 | our sympathy.
