HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Assistant Republican
4Leader and State Representative David Reis on his years of
5distinguished service and hard work on behalf of the people of
6the State of Illinois; and
7 WHEREAS, Rep. Reis was born on September 15, 1964; he
8attended Jasper County public schools and then graduated from
9Lake Land Community College and the University of Illinois with
10a bachelor's degree in agriculture; and
11 WHEREAS, Rep. Reis is a farmer and a businessman; he lives
12in Jasper County on his family's fifth-generation farm near the
13village of Ste. Marie, where the Reis family has farmed for
14over 150 years; and
15 WHEREAS, In 1993, Rep. Reis co-founded JC Co-op, where he
16served as general manager for seven years; from 1997 to 2004,
17he served on the board of directors of the Illinois Pork
18Producers Association; and
19 WHEREAS, Rep. Reis's wife, Maria Strelka Reis, is a special
20education teacher at the Nuttall Middle School in Robinson;
21they have two wonderful children, Nicholas and Adriana; and

1 WHEREAS, Rep. Reis was first elected in 2004 to serve the
2people of the 108th District; he was re-elected six times to
3represent the 108th District and the current 109th District,
4consisting of nine counties in southeastern Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, In 2017, in recognition of his leadership, Rep.
6Reis was promoted to the role of Assistant Republican Leader
7for the House Republican Caucus under House Republican Leader
8Jim Durkin; and
9 WHEREAS, Rep. Reis serves on the powerful House Executive
10Committee, which considers the State's most important and
11contentious bills; he also serves as Republican Spokesperson
12for several House committees, including Business and
13Occupational Licenses, Business Incentives for Local
14Communities, Community College Access and Affordability, and
15Insurance: Health and Life; he has also been a longtime member
16of the Appropriations - Public Safety Committee and Financial
17Institutions Committee; and
18 WHEREAS, As a free-market conservative, Rep. Reis is
19honored to serve on the board of directors and as the Illinois
20State Chair of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC)
21and as the Public Chair of ALEC's Energy, Environment and
22Agriculture Task Force; and

1 WHEREAS, Rep. Reis was instrumental in the passage of
2important legislation related to energy policy and hydraulic
3fracturing, job creation, concealed carry, and raising the
4speed limit on Illinois interstate highways; and
5 WHEREAS, Rep. Reis has been the recipient of numerous
6legislative honors and awards, including the Illinois Farm
7Bureau's Friend of Agriculture Award and the Illinois Chamber
8of Commerce's Champion of Free Enterprise Award; and
9 WHEREAS, Rep. Reis is a member of the St. Thomas Catholic
10Church in Newton, the Newton Knights of Columbus, the Sons of
11the American Legion, the Jasper County Farm Bureau, the Jasper
12County Chamber of Commerce, the Illinois State Rifle
13Association, the National Rifle Association, the National
14Federation of Independent Business, and the Illinois Pork
15Producers Association; therefore, be it
16 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
17HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
18congratulate our friend and colleague, State Rep. David Reis,
19on his retirement from the Illinois House of Representatives,
20and we wish him all the best in his future endeavors; and be it
