HOUSE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
Representatives wish to congratulate Assistant Republican
Leader and State Representative David Reis on his years of
distinguished service and hard work on behalf of the people of
the State of Illinois; and
WHEREAS, Rep. Reis was born on September 15, 1964; he
attended Jasper County public schools and then graduated from
Lake Land Community College and the University of Illinois with
a bachelor's degree in agriculture; and
WHEREAS, Rep. Reis is a farmer and a businessman; he lives
in Jasper County on his family's fifth-generation farm near the
village of Ste. Marie, where the Reis family has farmed for
over 150 years; and
WHEREAS, In 1993, Rep. Reis co-founded JC Co-op, where he
served as general manager for seven years; from 1997 to 2004,
he served on the board of directors of the Illinois Pork
Producers Association; and
WHEREAS, Rep. Reis's wife, Maria Strelka Reis, is a special
education teacher at the Nuttall Middle School in Robinson;
they have two wonderful children, Nicholas and Adriana; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Reis was first elected in 2004 to serve the
people of the 108th District; he was re-elected six times to
represent the 108th District and the current 109th District,
consisting of nine counties in southeastern Illinois; and
WHEREAS, In 2017, in recognition of his leadership, Rep.
Reis was promoted to the role of Assistant Republican Leader
for the House Republican Caucus under House Republican Leader
Jim Durkin; and
WHEREAS, Rep. Reis serves on the powerful House Executive
Committee, which considers the State's most important and
contentious bills; he also serves as Republican Spokesperson
for several House committees, including Business and
Occupational Licenses, Business Incentives for Local
Communities, Community College Access and Affordability, and
Insurance: Health and Life; he has also been a longtime member
of the Appropriations - Public Safety Committee and Financial
Institutions Committee; and
WHEREAS, As a free-market conservative, Rep. Reis is
honored to serve on the board of directors and as the Illinois
State Chair of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC)
and as the Public Chair of ALEC's Energy, Environment and
Agriculture Task Force; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Reis was instrumental in the passage of
important legislation related to energy policy and hydraulic
fracturing, job creation, concealed carry, and raising the
speed limit on Illinois interstate highways; and
WHEREAS, Rep. Reis has been the recipient of numerous
legislative honors and awards, including the Illinois Farm
Bureau's Friend of Agriculture Award and the Illinois Chamber
of Commerce's Champion of Free Enterprise Award; and
WHEREAS, Rep. Reis is a member of the St. Thomas Catholic
Church in Newton, the Newton Knights of Columbus, the Sons of
the American Legion, the Jasper County Farm Bureau, the Jasper
County Chamber of Commerce, the Illinois State Rifle
Association, the National Rifle Association, the National
Federation of Independent Business, and the Illinois Pork
Producers Association; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
congratulate our friend and colleague, State Rep. David Reis,
on his retirement from the Illinois House of Representatives,
and we wish him all the best in his future endeavors; and be it
