2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate
Assistant Republican | ||||||
4 | Leader and State Representative David Reis on his years of | ||||||
5 | distinguished
service and hard work on behalf of the people of | ||||||
6 | the State of Illinois; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Rep. Reis was born on September 15, 1964; he | ||||||
8 | attended Jasper County public
schools and then graduated from | ||||||
9 | Lake Land Community College and the University of
Illinois with | ||||||
10 | a bachelor's degree in agriculture; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Rep. Reis is a farmer and a businessman; he lives | ||||||
12 | in Jasper County on his family's fifth-generation farm near the | ||||||
13 | village of Ste. Marie, where the Reis family has farmed for | ||||||
14 | over 150
years; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, In 1993, Rep. Reis co-founded JC Co-op, where he | ||||||
16 | served as general manager for
seven years; from 1997 to 2004, | ||||||
17 | he served on the board of directors of the Illinois Pork
| ||||||
18 | Producers Association; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Rep. Reis's wife, Maria Strelka Reis, is a special | ||||||
20 | education teacher at the Nuttall
Middle School in Robinson; | ||||||
21 | they have two wonderful children, Nicholas and Adriana; and

1 | WHEREAS, Rep. Reis was first elected in 2004 to serve the | ||||||
2 | people of the 108th
District; he was re-elected six times to | ||||||
3 | represent the 108th District and the current 109th District,
| ||||||
4 | consisting of nine counties in southeastern Illinois; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, In 2017, in recognition of his leadership, Rep. | ||||||
6 | Reis was promoted to the
role of Assistant Republican Leader | ||||||
7 | for the House Republican Caucus under House Republican
Leader | ||||||
8 | Jim Durkin; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Rep. Reis serves on the powerful House Executive | ||||||
10 | Committee, which
considers the State's most important and | ||||||
11 | contentious bills; he also serves as Republican
Spokesperson | ||||||
12 | for several House committees, including Business and | ||||||
13 | Occupational Licenses,
Business Incentives for Local | ||||||
14 | Communities, Community College Access and Affordability, and
| ||||||
15 | Insurance: Health and Life; he has also been a longtime member | ||||||
16 | of the Appropriations - Public
Safety Committee and Financial | ||||||
17 | Institutions Committee; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, As a free-market conservative, Rep. Reis is | ||||||
19 | honored to serve on the board
of directors and as the Illinois | ||||||
20 | State Chair of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) | ||||||
21 | and as the Public Chair of ALEC's Energy, Environment and | ||||||
22 | Agriculture Task Force; and

1 | WHEREAS, Rep. Reis was instrumental in the passage of | ||||||
2 | important legislation related
to energy policy and hydraulic | ||||||
3 | fracturing, job creation, concealed carry, and raising the | ||||||
4 | speed
limit on Illinois interstate highways; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Rep. Reis has been the recipient of numerous | ||||||
6 | legislative honors and
awards, including the Illinois Farm | ||||||
7 | Bureau's Friend of Agriculture Award and the Illinois
Chamber | ||||||
8 | of Commerce's Champion of Free Enterprise Award; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Rep. Reis is a member of the St. Thomas Catholic | ||||||
10 | Church in Newton, the
Newton Knights of Columbus, the Sons of | ||||||
11 | the American Legion, the Jasper County Farm Bureau, the Jasper
| ||||||
12 | County Chamber of Commerce, the Illinois State Rifle | ||||||
13 | Association, the National Rifle Association,
the National | ||||||
14 | Federation of Independent Business, and the Illinois Pork | ||||||
15 | Producers Association; therefore, be it

16 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
17 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
18 | congratulate our friend and
colleague, State Rep. David Reis, | ||||||
19 | on his retirement from the Illinois House of
Representatives, | ||||||
20 | and we wish him all the best in his future endeavors; and be it | ||||||
