| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate the Lincoln-Way North | ||||||
| 4 | Marching Phoenix on winning the Class 4A State of Illinois | ||||||
| 5 | Marching Band Championship; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, The 110 members of the Marching Phoenix claimed | ||||||
| 7 | the Class 4A championship in class competition on October 11, | ||||||
| 8 | 2014 at Illinois State University in Bloomington; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, The Marching Phoenix also won Outstanding Music, | ||||||
| 10 | Visual Effect, and Crowd Appeal in class competition; in the | ||||||
| 11 | evening finals competition, in which all bands compete | ||||||
| 12 | regardless of class, the Marching Phoenix finished 5th overall; | ||||||
| 13 | the band also scored first in Visual General Effect out of the | ||||||
| 14 | finals group; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, A total of 40 bands from all over the State | ||||||
| 16 | participated; the bands competed in 6 classes, with | ||||||
| 17 | approximately 3,500 students participating; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, The title of the Marching Phoenix's show was | ||||||
| 19 | "Returning Home"; the music featured "Appalachian Morning" by | ||||||
| 20 | Robert Sheldon, "Ashokan Farewell" by Jay Ungar, "Althea" by | ||||||
| 21 | the Grateful Dead, and "American Gothic, mvt. III: Pitchfork" | ||||||

| 1 | by Michael Daugherty; wind music was arranged by Don Hill, | ||||||
| 2 | percussion was arranged by Kirk Hickman, drill design was by | ||||||
| 3 | Maney Thompson, and show design was by Alan Spaeth; and

| 4 | WHEREAS, The Marching Phoenix 2014 drum majors are Nora | ||||||
| 5 | Ward and Nikki Wiltjer; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 6 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 7 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 8 | we congratulate the Lincoln-Way North Marching Phoenix on | ||||||
| 9 | winning the Class 4A State of Illinois Marching Band | ||||||
| 10 | Championship and wish them many more years of success; and be | ||||||
| 11 | it further
