| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate the Joliet Region Chamber | ||||||
| 4 | of Commerce & Industry on the occasion of the 100th anniversary | ||||||
| 5 | of its founding on February 24, 2014; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, The Joliet Chamber was formed on February 24, 1914 | ||||||
| 7 | with less than 25 members; today it has grown to more than | ||||||
| 8 | 1,200; it is one of the oldest chambers in the State, and is | ||||||
| 9 | the fourth largest chamber in the State behind Chicago, | ||||||
| 10 | Naperville, and Rockford; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, The formation of the Joliet Chamber was initiated | ||||||
| 12 | by members of the Rotary Club of Joliet who felt that the | ||||||
| 13 | efforts to attract businesses to locate in Joliet were | ||||||
| 14 | scattered and disorganized, and had not produced the desired | ||||||
| 15 | results; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, The Joliet Chamber was first known as the Commerce | ||||||
| 17 | Chamber; it changed its name to the Commerce and Industrial | ||||||
| 18 | Association, and then the Joliet Chamber of Commerce; it | ||||||
| 19 | adopted its current name in 1962; and
| ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, These days, the Joliet Chamber's main focus is on | ||||||
| 21 | legislation and education at both the State and national | ||||||

| 1 | levels; transportation is a major issue for businesses in | ||||||
| 2 | Joliet and Will County, and educating area students on how to | ||||||
| 3 | develop a product or business and fund it is paramount to | ||||||
| 4 | producing the next generation of business leaders; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, The Joliet Chamber is helmed by President and | ||||||
| 6 | Chief Executive Officer Russ Slinkard; he has been with the | ||||||
| 7 | organization for 18 years; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, The Joliet Chamber's mission remains to make | ||||||
| 9 | business more profitable and to improve the quality of life in | ||||||
| 10 | the community; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 11 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 12 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 13 | we congratulate the Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce & | ||||||
| 14 | Industry on its 100th anniversary, and wish them many more | ||||||
| 15 | years of success; and be it further

| 16 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 17 | presented to the Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce & Industry | ||||||
| 18 | as an expression of our esteem and respect.
