HOUSE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Derrick
Booth, Jr. of Peoria, who passed away on May 24, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Derrick Booth, Jr. was born on January 6, 1992 to
Mecca Taylor and Derrick Booth, Sr.; he was a 2010 graduate of
Manual Academy and attended Illinois Central College and the
Job Corps, receiving a certification in culinary arts; and
WHEREAS, Affectionately known as "DJ", Derrick Booth, Jr.
had a love for all things culinary which grew out of his work
with his grandmother, Yvonne, at Booth Rental Catering; he
worked for Steak 'n Shake, Bob Evans, and most recently with
the South Side Mission; and
WHEREAS, Derrick Booth, Jr. was a member of St. Paul
Baptist Church, where he served on the audio/visual and youth
ministries; and
WHEREAS, Derrick Booth, Jr. is survived by his father and
stepmother, Derrick and State Representative Jehan Booth, Sr.;
his mother and step-father, Mecca and Kevin Beasley, Sr.; 2
brothers, Chancellor Booth and Jeremiah Taylor; 2 sisters,
Kalia Beasley and Jianna Yvonne Booth; his grandparents, Rudy

and Yvonne Booth, Edward and Geraldine Jackson, Jr., and
Gilbert Taylor; and other family and friends; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
we mourn the passing of Derrick Booth, Jr., and extend our
sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
and loved him; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Derrick Booth, Jr. as an expression
of our deepest sympathy.
