2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Shirley | ||||||
4 | Mae Jackson-Higgins, who passed away on May 24, 2014; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Shirley Jackson-Higgins was born in Bell City, | ||||||
6 | Missouri on February 3, 1943 to Willie J. and Rosie Lee | ||||||
7 | Jackson; she attended South Mast School and graduated from Bell | ||||||
8 | City High School; she was a member of Missionary Baptist | ||||||
9 | Church, also in Bell City; she attended Southeast Missouri | ||||||
10 | State University in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, graduated from | ||||||
11 | Triton College in River Grove, and attended DePaul University; | ||||||
12 | after relocating to Maywood, she was a member of First Baptist | ||||||
13 | Church of Melrose Park; she married Albert on December 31, | ||||||
14 | 1968; and

15 | WHEREAS, Shirley Jackson-Higgins's work history is long | ||||||
16 | and diverse beginning at Miles Square Medical Center of | ||||||
17 | Chicago; after relocating to Maywood, she took the position of | ||||||
18 | Account Administrator at Allied Van Lines; she also served as | ||||||
19 | an Administrative Assistant to the Illinois General Assembly; | ||||||
20 | later, she was employed by the Cook County Bureau of | ||||||
21 | Technology; upon retirement, she served as Commissioner on the | ||||||
22 | Maywood Housing Authority Board of Commissioners and was | ||||||
23 | Executive Director of the Maywood Urban Revitalization |

1 | Corporation; she was a member of The Way Back Inn Board of | ||||||
2 | Directors and a member with the Maywood Chamber of Commerce; | ||||||
3 | and

4 | WHEREAS, Shirley Jackson-Higgins acquired numerous | ||||||
5 | professional developmental certificates and accolades | ||||||
6 | including the Operation Uplift Maywood Hometown Achievement | ||||||
7 | Award, the Rosa Parks Heritage Award, and membership in the | ||||||
8 | Northeastern University Phi Beta Kappa Academic Honor Society; | ||||||
9 | and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Shirley Jackson-Higgins was preceded in death by | ||||||
11 | her parents; 2 brothers, Freddie Lee and J.W.; and 5 sisters, | ||||||
12 | Barbara Jean, Jessie B., Virginia, Ruthie Jean, and Deborah | ||||||
13 | Ann; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Shirley Jackson-Higgins is survived by her loving | ||||||
15 | husband, Albert; her beloved son, Talbert; precious daughter, | ||||||
16 | Angela Shirlene; beautiful grandchildren, Sydney Raymond and | ||||||
17 | Taylor Gabrielle Rose; siblings, Willie Lee (Helen), Eddie Lee, | ||||||
18 | Jerlean LeSure (Charles, deceased), Earnestine Pullen | ||||||
19 | (Charles, deceased), Carl Lee (Loretta), Daniel Lee (Amelia), | ||||||
20 | and Ceretha Brown (James, deceased); brother-in-law, J.W. | ||||||
21 | Terry; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and | ||||||
22 | friends; therefore, be it

1 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
2 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
3 | we mourn the passing of Shirley Mae Jackson-Higgins, and extend | ||||||
4 | our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who | ||||||
5 | knew and loved her; and be it further

6 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
