HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to honor and congratulate Tyra Buss
4for her academic and athletic accomplishments while enrolled at
5Mt. Carmel High School in Mt. Carmel; and
6 WHEREAS, Kelly and Tim Buss welcomed Tyra's birth in Mt.
7Carmel on April 25, 1996; on this day, Kelly was scheduled to
8coach a track and field meet for the Mt. Carmel High School
9team, but instead gave birth to her only daughter, who would go
10on to become the school's most decorated student-athlete; and
11 WHEREAS, In 2013, Tyra Buss became the first player in
12Illinois High School History to score 3,000 career points by
13the end of their junior season; she led the 2012-13 Lady Aces
14to become the first basketball team in Mt. Carmel High School
15history to go undefeated during the regular season, and became
16the all-time State of Illinois career leading free throw
17shooter; and
18 WHEREAS, Tyra Buss has achieved numerous Illinois all-time
19records in girls basketball, including most points scored in a
20season (1,466), most points scored in a career (4,897), most
21free throws made in a career (1,185), highest scoring average
22in a career (38.0), highest scoring average in a season (45.8),

1most field goals made in a season (512), and most field goals
2made in a career (1,644); and
3 WHEREAS, In 2014, Tyra Buss was named to the Parade High
4School All-American Team and was designated as Illinois
5Gatorade Player of the Year; and
6 WHEREAS, Tyra Buss has attained national girls basketball
7all-time records, including being 2nd in points scored in a
8career, 2nd in free throws made in a career, 2nd in field goals
9made in a career, 3rd in free throws made in a season, 4th in
10most free throws made in a season, 4th in most points made in a
11season, 5th in career points per game average, and 5th in
12season points per game average; and
13 WHEREAS, In 2014, Tyra Buss was named to the First Team
14All-State by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association for
15the 4th straight year; and
16 WHEREAS, The Chicago Tribune, in conjunction with the
17Illinois Basketball Coaches Association, chose Tyra Buss as the
182014 Illinois Ms. Basketball, her second consecutive year
19holding this title; and
20 WHEREAS, Tyra Buss scored 1,466 points, 215 steals, 114
21assists, and 175 rebounds for the Aces during her senior year;

2 WHEREAS, In addition to basketball, Tyra Buss received 4
3varsity letters in each of 3 additional sports she participated
4in during her high school career, tennis, track, and cross
5country; and
6 WHEREAS, During her senior year of high school, Tyra Buss
7dedicated herself to being her best both on and off the court;
8she currently maintains a perfect 5.0 GPA at Mt. Carmel High
9School; therefore, be it
10 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
12we congratulate Tyra Buss on her athletic and academic
13accomplishments; and be it further
14 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
15presented to Tyra Buss and Mt. Carmel High School as a symbol
16of our respect and esteem.
