| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Megan Cassidy of | ||||||
4 | Grayslake and a member of Girl Scout Troop 40493 on attaining | ||||||
5 | the Girl Scout Gold Award; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Megan is a freshman at Concordia University in | ||||||
7 | Wisconsin; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, The Gold Award is the highest rank that a young | ||||||
9 | woman can earn within the Girl Scouts of America;
Ms. Cassidy | ||||||
10 | has been a member of the Girl Scouts since 1st grade; in 6th | ||||||
11 | grade, she was given a Bronze Award for creating a workshop | ||||||
12 | program called "Becoming a Teen" to help young girls with | ||||||
13 | addressing life issues that arise in teenage years; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, In 9th Grade, Ms. Cassidy attained the "Silver | ||||||
15 | Award" for her research and creation of a presentation on the | ||||||
16 | country of France that was given to local civic groups and | ||||||
17 | other Girl Scout Troops; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, For her final Gold Award project, Ms. Cassidy | ||||||
19 | created an English as a Second Language (ESL) "Read to Me" | ||||||
20 | program for the Avon Elementary School Media Center in Round | ||||||
21 | Lake Beach, by recording and producing 75 "books on CDs" for |

1 | the listening library; the goal of this effort is to provide | ||||||
2 | extra exposure to the English language and assist children in | ||||||
3 | moving from ESL (English as a Second Language) class to regular | ||||||
4 | school classes; she also purchased 4 CD players, carrying | ||||||
5 | cases, and extra books for the library; this project involved | ||||||
6 | well over 250 man-hours of work by Ms. Cassidy and involved the | ||||||
7 | assistance of a number of other volunteers; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, At the request of the Girl Scouts of America, Ms. | ||||||
9 | Cassidy wrote a reference paper explaining her Gold Award | ||||||
10 | project so that it could be replicated by other Girl Scout | ||||||
11 | Troops across the country; as a Girl Scout for 13 years, Ms. | ||||||
12 | Cassidy's steady, persistent progress through the ranks to | ||||||
13 | achieve this prestigious award demonstrates her determination | ||||||
14 | to prepare herself for a meaningful, productive role in | ||||||
15 | society; therefore, be it

16 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
17 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
18 | we congratulate Megan Cassidy on this momentous occasion and | ||||||
19 | wish her all the best in her future endeavors; and be it | ||||||
20 | further

21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
22 | presented to Megan Cassidy as a symbol of our respect and | ||||||
23 | esteem.
