John McCain concerning the recent comments made about him by Special Assistant Kelly Riddell Sadler, and to remove her from any position within the White House communications office and from any other government related duties.

1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Sen. John McCain is a true American hero who has | ||||||
3 | dedicated his life to public service, serving in the United | ||||||
4 | States Navy as an aviator from 1958 to 1981, as Congressman of | ||||||
5 | Arizona's 1st District from 1983 to 1987, and in the U.S. | ||||||
6 | Senate since 1987; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, During the Vietnam War, Sen. McCain was seriously | ||||||
8 | injured and captured and held as a prisoner of war for six | ||||||
9 | years, where he was tortured and sustained injuries resulting | ||||||
10 | in lifelong physical disabilities; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Sen. McCain was diagnosed with an aggressive form | ||||||
12 | of brain cancer in 2017 and has been receiving treatment at | ||||||
13 | home in Arizona; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, On May 10, 2018, Special Assistant of the White | ||||||
15 | House Communications Office, Kelly Riddell Sadler, mocked Sen. | ||||||
16 | John McCain's diagnosis of brain cancer; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Kelly Riddell Sadler dismissed Sen. McCain's | ||||||
18 | opinion on President Trump's nominee for CIA director, stating | ||||||
19 | "[His opinion] doesn't matter. He's dying anyway"; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Common human decency calls for reverence and |

1 | respect for members of the armed forces, seniors, and | ||||||
2 | individuals with serious health concerns; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Several Senate Republicans have called for an | ||||||
4 | apology from the Trump administration, including Sen. Lindsey | ||||||
5 | Graham, Sen. John Cornyn, Sen. John Kennedy, and Sen. Dan | ||||||
6 | Sullivan; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, The Trump administration has refused to | ||||||
8 | acknowledge or apologize for the degrading remarks made by its | ||||||
9 | Special Assistant; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
11 | Representatives condemn recent disrespectful comments made by | ||||||
12 | White House Communications Office Special Assistant, Kelly | ||||||
13 | Riddell Sadler concerning Sen. John McCain; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, It is in the poorest of taste for an employee of | ||||||
15 | the highest office in the country to disrespect and disparage | ||||||
16 | disabled veterans of the armed forces; therefore, be it
| ||||||
17 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
18 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
19 | strongly urge the President of the United States to issue a | ||||||
20 | formal apology to Sen. John McCain and to remove Special | ||||||
21 | Assistant Kelly Riddell Sadler from her position within the |

2 | related duties; and be it further
| ||||||
3 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
4 | presented to President Trump, his Chief of Staff, John F. | ||||||
5 | Kelly, and Kelly Riddell Sadler as a symbol of our disapproval | ||||||
6 | of any disrespect toward veterans or the armed forces, | ||||||
7 | especially, the vile, shameful comments made by Kelly Riddell | ||||||
8 | Sadler.
