HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Randy Perry on
4the occasion of his retirement as Directing Pastor of Calvary
5United Methodist Church in Normal; and
6 WHEREAS, Dr. Perry was born in Shelbyville, Indiana; he
7attended elementary school in DeKalb, middle school in Albia,
8and the laboratory high school at Western Illinois University
9in Macomb; he earned his bachelor's degree from Iowa Wesleyan
10College, where he worked with Dr. George LeMore, a highly
11respected professor and preacher; he earned his license to
12serve as a student pastor at the United Methodist Church of
13Nauvoo; and
14 WHEREAS, After graduation, Dr. Perry traveled to Durham,
15North Carolina to complete his theological training at Duke
16University; while there he served as youth pastor for First
17United Methodist Church in Siler City, North Carolina; upon
18graduation, he returned to the Midwest to accept his first
19appointment as Pastor in the Great Rivers Illinois Conference,
20and was assigned to Cornell Blackstone United Methodist Church;
21while at Cornell, he met his future wife, Kandis Mills; and
22 WHEREAS, In 1976, Dr. Perry was appointed to Forrest United

1Methodist Church and began his doctoral studies at Vanderbilt
2University; the Perrys were married at Forrest Church in June
3of 1981 and the couple welcomed their first child, Rachel; and
4 WHEREAS, Dr. Perry moved his family to Gibson City to serve
5the United Methodist Church, and during these years, the
6couple's 2 other children, Rebecca and Nathan, were born; he
7was then appointed to First United Methodist Church in
8Taylorville, and during his years in Taylorville, he served as
9a member of several non-profit boards, including the YMCA, the
10Hopper Foundation, the Felheimer Trust, and Iowa Wesleyan
11University; and
12 WHEREAS, In 1999, Dr. Perry's appointment to Calvary United
13Methodist Church brought the family to Normal, and under his
14leadership, the church grew from 775 members to over 1700,
15becoming the third largest church in the Illinois Great Rivers
16Conference; he was instrumental in the church's building and
17expansion projects; therefore, be it
18 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
19NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
20we congratulate Dr. Randy Perry on his retirement as Directing
21Pastor of Calvary United Methodist Church, and wish him the
22best in all his future endeavors; and be it further
