2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Randy Perry on | ||||||
4 | the occasion of his retirement as Directing Pastor of Calvary | ||||||
5 | United Methodist Church in Normal; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Dr. Perry was born in Shelbyville, Indiana; he | ||||||
7 | attended elementary school in DeKalb, middle school in
Albia, | ||||||
8 | and the laboratory high school at Western Illinois University | ||||||
9 | in Macomb; he earned his
bachelor's degree from Iowa Wesleyan | ||||||
10 | College, where he worked with Dr. George LeMore, a highly | ||||||
11 | respected professor and preacher; he
earned his license to | ||||||
12 | serve as a student pastor at the United Methodist Church of | ||||||
13 | Nauvoo; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, After graduation, Dr. Perry traveled to Durham, | ||||||
15 | North Carolina to complete his theological training at Duke
| ||||||
16 | University; while there he served as youth pastor for First | ||||||
17 | United Methodist Church in Siler City, North
Carolina; upon | ||||||
18 | graduation, he returned to the Midwest to accept his first | ||||||
19 | appointment as Pastor in the Great Rivers
Illinois Conference, | ||||||
20 | and was assigned to Cornell Blackstone United Methodist Church; | ||||||
21 | while at Cornell, he met
his future wife, Kandis Mills; and

22 | WHEREAS, In 1976, Dr. Perry was appointed to Forrest United |

1 | Methodist Church and began his doctoral studies at
Vanderbilt | ||||||
2 | University; the Perrys were married at Forrest Church in June | ||||||
3 | of 1981 and the couple welcomed their
first child, Rachel; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Dr. Perry moved his family to Gibson City to serve | ||||||
5 | the United Methodist Church, and
during these years, the | ||||||
6 | couple's 2 other children, Rebecca and Nathan, were born; he | ||||||
7 | was then appointed to First United Methodist Church in | ||||||
8 | Taylorville, and during his years in
Taylorville, he served as | ||||||
9 | a member of several non-profit boards, including the YMCA, the | ||||||
10 | Hopper Foundation, the
Felheimer Trust, and Iowa Wesleyan | ||||||
11 | University; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, In 1999, Dr. Perry's appointment to Calvary United | ||||||
13 | Methodist Church brought the family to Normal, and under his | ||||||
14 | leadership, the church grew from 775 members to over 1700, | ||||||
15 | becoming
the third largest church in the Illinois Great Rivers | ||||||
16 | Conference; he was instrumental in the church's
building and | ||||||
17 | expansion projects; therefore, be it

18 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
19 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
20 | we congratulate Dr. Randy Perry on his retirement as Directing | ||||||
21 | Pastor of Calvary United Methodist Church, and wish him the | ||||||
22 | best in all his future endeavors; and be it further
