| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, H.R. 3410, the Taking Responsible Action for | ||||||
| 3 | Community Safety Act, a bill currently under consideration by | ||||||
| 4 | Congress, would revise requirements with respect to the | ||||||
| 5 | consolidation, merger, or acquisition of control involving | ||||||
| 6 | rail carriers to require public hearings in the affected | ||||||
| 7 | communities if public hearings on a proposed transaction are | ||||||
| 8 | held; the bill requires the Surface Transportation Board to | ||||||
| 9 | consider the effect of any proposed Class I railroad merger on | ||||||
| 10 | the public interest and prohibits the STB from approving | ||||||
| 11 | mergers if any adverse impact on safety and on affected | ||||||
| 12 | communities outweigh their transportation benefits; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, The passage of this bill is of utmost importance | ||||||
| 14 | to the people of the State of Illinois and the nation at large; | ||||||
| 15 | therefore, be it

| 16 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 17 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 18 | urge Congress to pass H.R. 3410, the Taking Responsible Action | ||||||
| 19 | for Community Safety Act; and be it further
| ||||||
| 20 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
| 21 | presented to the Speaker and Minority Leader of the United | ||||||
| 22 | States House of Representatives, the Majority and Minority | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | Leader of the United States Senate, and the members of the | ||||||
| 2 | Illinois congressional delegation.
