2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Daniel J. | ||||||
4 | Davis of Waukegan, who passed away on April 27, 2014; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Daniel Davis was born in Quanah, Texas on August | ||||||
6 | 14, 1954 to Bertis and Mary Davis; he earned degrees from the | ||||||
7 | Douglas MacArthur Academy of Freedom at Howard Paine University | ||||||
8 | in Brownwood, Texas and the Johns Hopkins-Carey Business School | ||||||
9 | in Baltimore, Maryland; in addition, he obtained the title of | ||||||
10 | rabbi; he served in the United States Navy and Marine Corps at | ||||||
11 | the close of the Vietnam War and in the Israeli Defense Forces | ||||||
12 | during the First Lebanon War; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Daniel Davis was known as "Dancin' Dan" while | ||||||
14 | working at KOLJ-FM out of Quanah, Texas; he helped keep Tarrant | ||||||
15 | County, Texas safe as a sheriff's deputy, and later moved to | ||||||
16 | Illinois to work as a private investigator; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Daniel Davis became passionate about the cause of | ||||||
18 | medical marijuana, and, in 2012, became involved in the push | ||||||
19 | for legalization; he worked with NORML Illinois and the | ||||||
20 | Marijuana Policy Project and is credited by some with getting | ||||||
21 | the pilot program passed; his proudest moment was being on-hand | ||||||
22 | to watch Governor Quinn sign HB1 into law in August of 2013; |

2 | WHEREAS, Daniel Davis is survived by his wife of 23 years, | ||||||
3 | Lorriedel Davis, and a host of friends; therefore, be it
| ||||||
4 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
5 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
6 | we mourn the passing of Daniel J. Davis, and extend our sincere | ||||||
7 | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
8 | him; and be it further

9 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
10 | presented to the family of Daniel Davis as an expression of our | ||||||
11 | deepest sympathy.
