| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate the Murphysboro Eighth | ||||||
| 4 | Grade Volleyball Team on winning the Southern Illinois Junior | ||||||
| 5 | High School Athletic Association (SIJHSAA) Class L State | ||||||
| 6 | Championship; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, The Murphysboro Blue Devils defeated DuQuoin in | ||||||
| 8 | two closely-fought sets by scores of 26-24 and 25-23 to win the | ||||||
| 9 | State Championship for the second straight year, finishing the | ||||||
| 10 | season with an overall record of 28-8 and 12-0 in the | ||||||
| 11 | Conference; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, In the run-up to the State Championship, the Blue | ||||||
| 13 | Devils also captured their eighth consecutive Junior Southwest | ||||||
| 14 | Egyptian Conference title; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, The Blue Devils have not only excelled on the | ||||||
| 16 | court but also in the classroom, with a team average GPA of a | ||||||
| 17 | 3.7 on a 4.0 scale; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, This season also featured the 1,000th combined | ||||||
| 19 | career volleyball win for Blue Devils Head Coach Mike Layne, | ||||||
| 20 | who has coached volleyball within the Murphysboro School | ||||||
| 21 | District at both the middle and high school levels; and
| ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, The Assistant Coach of the Blue Devils is Jessica | ||||||
| 2 | Whitehead, and the team is helped out by volunteer coaches Fred | ||||||
| 3 | Schnautz, Darrly Backstrom, Lisa Shields, Marian Laughland, | ||||||
| 4 | and Mike Laughland, as well as bus driver Roy Overturf, who has | ||||||
| 5 | driven the team to every game for the past three years; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, The Blue Devils are Kayden Gilmore, Maddie Dallas, | ||||||
| 7 | Malorie Gill, Zoey Cox, Sarah Cook, Morgan Boucher, Annie | ||||||
| 8 | Decker, Hailey Tellor, Ellee Doerr, Alyssa Werner, Carlee | ||||||
| 9 | Pullis, Brynnlie Fox, Lillie Rudolph, Shelby Cook, Tabytha | ||||||
| 10 | Young, India Harris, and manager Emily Cue; therefore, be it

| 11 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 12 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 13 | congratulate the Murphysboro Blue Devils Eighth Grade | ||||||
| 14 | Volleyball Team on winning the SIJHSAA Class L State | ||||||
| 15 | Championships, and we admire their commitment and dedication | ||||||
| 16 | not only to their sport, but to their studies as well; and be | ||||||
| 17 | it further

| 18 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
| 19 | presented to all members and coaches of the Blue Devils as a | ||||||
| 20 | symbol of our respect and esteem.
