| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Geoffrey S. Porter on the | ||||||
| 4 | occasion of his 80th birthday on October 16, 2026; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Geoffrey Porter was born to Jesse and Greta | ||||||
| 6 | Porter on October 16, 1946; he attended St. James Catholic | ||||||
| 7 | School and Williams Elementary School, and he graduated from | ||||||
| 8 | Dunbar High School; he attended Wilson Junior College, where | ||||||
| 9 | he was named a Junior College All-American in basketball, and | ||||||
| 10 | then Yankton College on a full basketball scholarship; and | ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Geoffrey Porter served as a teacher for 37 years, | ||||||
| 12 | and he continues to work as a monitor in driver's education; he | ||||||
| 13 | also served as the assistant basketball coach at Kennedy-King | ||||||
| 14 | College; during his tenure as a coach and a teacher, he | ||||||
| 15 | impacted hundreds of students' lives; and | ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Geoffrey Porter and his wife, Betty, have been | ||||||
| 17 | members of Merrill/Compassion Baptist Church for over 40 | ||||||
| 18 | years, where he served as a trustee for 12 years and currently | ||||||
| 19 | as a deacon for 19 years; he and his family have served on | ||||||
| 20 | various church ministries, committees, boards, organizations, | ||||||
| 21 | and associations over the years; and | ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, Geoffrey Porter has been the husband of Betty for | ||||||
| 2 | 56 years and is the father of Faylesha, Cicely (Quan), and | ||||||
| 3 | Duane (Sauda) as well as the grandfather of five; therefore, | ||||||
| 4 | be it | ||||||
| 5 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 6 | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 7 | we congratulate Geoffrey S. Porter on his 80th birthday on | ||||||
| 8 | October 16, 2026; and be it further | ||||||
| 9 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 10 | presented to Geoffrey Porter as an expression of our esteem | ||||||
