| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate William Nelson on the | ||||||
| 4 | occasion of his retirement after 18 years as the Director of | ||||||
| 5 | the Rock Island Parks and Recreation Department; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Under the leadership of William Nelson, numerous | ||||||
| 7 | improvements were made, including the addition of Whitewater | ||||||
| 8 | Junction Aquatic Park, 2 expansions of the Rock Island Fitness | ||||||
| 9 | and Activity Center, the creation and operation of Schwiebert | ||||||
| 10 | Riverfront Park, updates at the Highland Springs and Saukie | ||||||
| 11 | golf courses, and the addition of Martin Luther King, Jr. Park | ||||||
| 12 | and Rauch Park; the playgrounds and recreational amenities | ||||||
| 13 | received welcome attention, including the Quad-Cities' first | ||||||
| 14 | dog park, the pickleball courts, new tennis courts at Hodge | ||||||
| 15 | Park, and the cutting-edge electronic playground at Schwiebert | ||||||
| 16 | Park; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Thanks to William Nelson's commitment to Rock | ||||||
| 18 | Island, residents have grown accustomed to its parks being a | ||||||
| 19 | source of great pride to the city, and its recreation | ||||||
| 20 | facilities have set a standard other communities strive to | ||||||
| 21 | match; and
| ||||||
| 22 | WHEREAS, William Nelson served on the board and chaired the | ||||||

| 1 | Quad City Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Bi-State | ||||||
| 2 | Riverfront Council, where he helped to attract and stage such | ||||||
| 3 | events as Train Festival 2011 in Rock Island; he is a longtime | ||||||
| 4 | member of the Quad City Botanical Center Board, where he was a | ||||||
| 5 | staunch supporter of the Children's Garden expansion; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, William Nelson's retirement will be official in | ||||||
| 7 | April of 2016; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 8 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 9 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 10 | congratulate William Nelson on his retirement after 18 years as | ||||||
| 11 | the Director of the Rock Island Parks and Recreation | ||||||
| 12 | Department, and we wish him the best in all his future | ||||||
| 13 | endeavors; and be it further

| 14 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 15 | presented to William Nelson as an expression of our esteem and | ||||||
| 16 | respect.
