HOUSE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
Representatives are pleased to acknowledge the Board of
Trustees and the staff of Kaskaskia College in Centralia as
they begin the building of the Veterans Tribute on the grounds
of Kaskaskia College; and
WHEREAS, The Veterans Tribute at Kaskaskia College will be
a unique, heartfelt monument that will honor the men and women
who have served, who currently are serving, and those who will
someday serve the nation; and
WHEREAS, The Tribute will allow students, family members,
and visitors a connecting link to veterans by providing a
broader spectrum, appreciation, and understanding of the
magnitude of all that veterans have done in preserving
democracy and keeping the dream of freedom alive; and
WHEREAS, When it is completed, the Tribute will have space
to proudly display the names and branches of service for
150,000 veterans who have connections to the Illinois counties
of Bond, Clinton, Fayette, Marion, and Washington; and
WHEREAS, The Tribute campaign has an overall goal of
raising $1 million to complete all 3 phases of construction;

Kaskaskia College was chosen as the site for the Tribute
because it is the center point for Bond, Clinton, Fayette,
Marion, and Washington Counties; and
WHEREAS, The project is being 100% funded through private
donations; the Veterans Tribute will have a tremendous economic
impact for the area as a tourist attraction, bringing guests
from around the nation; the Tribute will also provide an
excellent educational benefit for students of all ages as they
learn about the role that veterans have played in the
preservation of our freedom; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
we acknowledge and thank the Board of Trustees and the staff of
Kaskaskia College as they begin the building of the Veterans
Tribute; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to Dr. Jim Underwood, President of Kaskaskia College
and the Board of Trustees as a symbol of our respect and
esteem.
