| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to acknowledge the Board of | ||||||
| 4 | Trustees and the staff of Kaskaskia College in Centralia as | ||||||
| 5 | they begin the building of the Veterans Tribute on the grounds | ||||||
| 6 | of Kaskaskia College; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, The Veterans Tribute at Kaskaskia College will be | ||||||
| 8 | a unique, heartfelt monument that will honor the men and women | ||||||
| 9 | who have served, who currently are serving, and those who will | ||||||
| 10 | someday serve the nation; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, The Tribute will allow students, family members, | ||||||
| 12 | and visitors a connecting link to veterans by providing a | ||||||
| 13 | broader spectrum, appreciation, and understanding of the | ||||||
| 14 | magnitude of all that veterans have done in preserving | ||||||
| 15 | democracy and keeping the dream of freedom alive; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, When it is completed, the Tribute will have space | ||||||
| 17 | to proudly display the names and branches of service for | ||||||
| 18 | 150,000 veterans who have connections to the Illinois counties | ||||||
| 19 | of Bond, Clinton, Fayette, Marion, and Washington; and
| ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, The Tribute campaign has an overall goal of | ||||||
| 21 | raising $1 million to complete all 3 phases of construction; | ||||||

| 1 | Kaskaskia College was chosen as the site for the Tribute | ||||||
| 2 | because it is the center point for Bond, Clinton, Fayette, | ||||||
| 3 | Marion, and Washington Counties; and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, The project is being 100% funded through private | ||||||
| 5 | donations; the Veterans Tribute will have a tremendous economic | ||||||
| 6 | impact for the area as a tourist attraction, bringing guests | ||||||
| 7 | from around the nation; the Tribute will also provide an | ||||||
| 8 | excellent educational benefit for students of all ages as they | ||||||
| 9 | learn about the role that veterans have played in the | ||||||
| 10 | preservation of our freedom; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 11 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 12 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 13 | we acknowledge and thank the Board of Trustees and the staff of | ||||||
| 14 | Kaskaskia College as they begin the building of the Veterans | ||||||
| 15 | Tribute; and be it further
| ||||||
| 16 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 17 | presented to Dr. Jim Underwood, President of Kaskaskia College | ||||||
| 18 | and the Board of Trustees as a symbol of our respect and | ||||||
| 19 | esteem.
