| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to honor Morris (Morrie) Svendsen, | ||||||
| 4 | a founding member of the Northern Illinois Painting and Drywall | ||||||
| 5 | Institute, for his hard work, dedication, and years of service; | ||||||
| 6 | he was a NIPDI Trustee from December 1978 to December 1991; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, The Northern Illinois Painting and Drywall | ||||||
| 8 | Institute (NIPDI) was officially formed on December 21, 1978; | ||||||
| 9 | the first three NIPDI Trustees were Larry Nedrow, Anthony | ||||||
| 10 | Pintozzi, Sr., and Morris Svendsen; NIPDI was created by the | ||||||
| 11 | Northeast Illinois Chapter Painting and Decorating Contractors | ||||||
| 12 | of America in agreement with Painters District Council No. 30; | ||||||
| 13 | and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Svendsen Brothers Decorators was started in 1926 | ||||||
| 15 | in Elgin by Marius Svendsen, Morrie's father; he and his | ||||||
| 16 | younger brother, Philip, started working summers in their Dad's | ||||||
| 17 | business when they were teenagers; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Morrie graduated from high school, went to college | ||||||
| 19 | for one year at Northern Illinois University, then was drafted | ||||||
| 20 | into the Army and spent time in Japan during the Korean War; he | ||||||
| 21 | returned home from service in 1953 and started getting involved | ||||||
| 22 | in the management of the family business; his brother, Philip, | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | also returned to the business after his time in the Navy; and
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The two brothers gradually took over the | ||||||
| 3 | responsibilities for directing the business, and, after more | ||||||
| 4 | than 50 years in the painting business, Morrie retired in 2002 | ||||||
| 5 | and closed the business; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, During the years of Morrie's leadership, Svendsen | ||||||
| 7 | Brothers Decorators grew into one of the prominent painting | ||||||
| 8 | companies of Northern Illinois; Morrie assumed the role of | ||||||
| 9 | Secretary-Treasurer for the Northern Illinois Painting and | ||||||
| 10 | Drywall Institute, and spent countless hours handling all of | ||||||
| 11 | the clerical and financial responsibilities of the | ||||||
| 12 | organization; he remained on the Board of Trustees until 1991; | ||||||
| 13 | therefore, be it

| 14 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 15 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 16 | honor Morris Svendsen for his years of service and dedication | ||||||
| 17 | to his craft, and wish him all the best for the future; and be | ||||||
| 18 | it further
| ||||||
| 19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 20 | presented to Morris Svendsen, as a symbol of our respect and | ||||||
| 21 | esteem.
