HOUSE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Michael
Robert "Mike" Wehman Sr., who passed away on September 18,
2026; and
WHEREAS, Mike Wehman was born to William and Emily
(Majercik) Wehman in Chicago on September 2, 1944; during his
childhood years, he lived in Chicago, Downers Grove, and later
West Chicago, where he attended high school and participated
in track and varsity football; and
WHEREAS, Mike Wehman attended Illinois State University
before enlisting in the United States Navy, where he trained
as a radioman in San Diego, California; he served aboard the
USS Wright, the USS Charles S. Sperry, and the USS Benewah, and
he also served with a riverine squadron in Vietnam's Mekong
Delta; aboard the Sperry, he took part in a goodwill tour
through the Middle East and Africa; he was honorably
discharged in San Francisco, California; and
WHEREAS, Mike Wehman married Jeanne Schaller in 1970, and
they settled in Chicago's East Lakeview neighborhood, where he
worked and attended night classes at the University of
Illinois Chicago's Circle Campus; their family proceeded to

live in Midlothian and then Des Plaines for nearly five
decades before moving to Mount Prospect in 2024; and
WHEREAS, Mike Wehman built a career in management
information services, working at A.G. Becker, Morton Thiokol,
the National Safety Council, and the American Bar Association,
before retiring in his early sixties due to severe hearing
loss; and
WHEREAS, Mike Wehman, in retirement, was active with the
Hearing Loss Association of America, managing the
organization's newsletter and participating in charity walks;
his veteran status also became a more prominent part of his
identity later in life, and he took part in an Honor Flight to
Washington, D.C. in 2018; and
WHEREAS, Mike Wehman was a fan of model trains, reading,
DIY projects, gardening, softball, golf, and the Chicago Cubs;
he and Jeanne traveled extensively, including trips to Vietnam
and Cambodia, river cruises through Germany's Christmas
markets, and an Alaskan cruise; he cherished spending time at
the family's second home in Galena and cheering for his
grandsons at their sporting events; and
WHEREAS, Mike Wehman was known for his kindness, his
warmth, and his gentlemanly manner; he was quick with a joke, a

believer in a firm handshake, and knew how to make people feel
instantly welcome and at ease; he will be remembered as a
loving husband, caring father, and devoted grandfather; and
WHEREAS, Mike Wehman was preceded in death by his parents
and his brothers, Bill, Dick, and Thom Wehman; and
WHEREAS, Mike Wehman is survived by his wife of 56 years,
Jeanne; his children, Michael Wehman, Scott (Christine)
Wehman, and Gretchen (Brad) Ketels; his grandchildren, Henry
Wehman, Zachary Wehman, August Ketels, Nathan Ketels, and
Walter Ketels; and his sisters, Sharon Rowland and Val
Dolmage; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
we mourn the passing of Michael Robert "Mike" Wehman Sr. and
extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all
who knew and loved him; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Mike Wehman as an expression of our
deepest sympathy.
