Bill Title: Declares August 10 as Mexican American Day in the State of Illinois in celebration of the history, identity, achievements, and enduring contributions of Mexican Americans to the State and nation. Encourages residents, educational institutions, community organizations, businesses, and public officials throughout Illinois to observe Mexican American Day by recognizing Mexican American history and contributions and promoting understanding, civic engagement, and opportunity for future generations. Recognizes the North American Institute for Mexican Advancement (NAIMA) and the Village of Melrose Park for their roles in establishing Mexican American Day and launching an observance intended to grow from Illinois to communities throughout the nation.

HOUSE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Mexican Americans have played an integral role in
the history, development, economy, culture, and civic life of
the State of Illinois, contributing through agriculture,
manufacturing, construction, transportation, business,
education, healthcare, public service, the arts, and service
in the United States Armed Forces; and
WHEREAS, Generations of Mexican American families have
established and strengthened communities throughout Illinois,
building neighborhoods, businesses, schools, churches,
cultural institutions, labor organizations, and community
organizations that have helped shape the character and
prosperity of our State; and
WHEREAS, Mexican Americans have enriched Illinois while
maintaining deep connections to Mexican history, traditions,
language, family, and culture, demonstrating that Mexican
heritage and American identity are complementary parts of the
Mexican American experience; and
WHEREAS, Recognizing Mexican American history and
contributions provides an opportunity to preserve this
heritage, strengthen civic participation, and inspire future
generations; and

WHEREAS, August 10 falls exactly 36 days after July 4, the
Independence Day of the United States, and 36 days before
September 16, the Independence Day of Mexico, symbolizing the
bridge of history, culture, and shared identity represented by
Mexican Americans; and
WHEREAS, The Mexican American Day initiative was conceived
and developed by the North American Institute for Mexican
Advancement (NAIMA), and it was first officially recognized by
the Village of Melrose Park, establishing Illinois as the
birthplace of this observance; and
WHEREAS, Mexican American Day was launched with the
broader vision of encouraging communities throughout the
United States to recognize, document, preserve, and celebrate
the history and enduring contributions of Mexican Americans;
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
we declare August 10 as Mexican American Day in the State of
Illinois in celebration of the history, identity,
achievements, and enduring contributions of Mexican Americans
to our State and nation; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we encourage residents, educational
institutions, community organizations, businesses, and public
officials throughout Illinois to observe Mexican American Day
by recognizing Mexican American history and contributions and
