| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
| ||||||
3 | Representatives would like to congratulate Glenda Fulton for | ||||||
4 | being honored by Mothers Informing Mothers International at | ||||||
5 | their event, the Perfectly PINK Rose Garden Party, with the | ||||||
6 | theme of "Strong is the New Beautiful" on May 19, 2012; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Glenda Fulton will be honored for her work with | ||||||
8 | the National Sarcoidosis Friends; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Sarcoidosis is a disease involving inflammation | ||||||
10 | that produces tiny lumps of cells in various organs in the | ||||||
11 | body; the lumps are called granulomas, which are very small and | ||||||
12 | can be seen only with a microscope;
the tiny granulomas can | ||||||
13 | grow and clump together, making many large and small lumps, | ||||||
14 | potentially affecting organ function; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Glenda Fulton was diagnosed with sarcoidosis in | ||||||
16 | 1975; since her diagnosis, she has helped focus national | ||||||
17 | attention on this disease through her public and pro-active | ||||||
18 | stance toward educating others and through her public advocacy; | ||||||
19 | she has been on the cutting edge of research and efforts to | ||||||
20 | promote education and awareness about sarcoidosis; she has | ||||||
21 | spoken on numerous occasions and presented information on many | ||||||
22 | topics relevant to services and educational awareness about the |

1 | disease; she has been a speaker, presenter, and panelist at | ||||||
2 | numerous sarcoidosis conferences throughout the State and has | ||||||
3 | been involved in efforts to develop sarcoidosis support groups; | ||||||
4 | she has written grants to secure financial support for | ||||||
5 | sarcoidosis research and awareness issues and assisted with | ||||||
6 | other fundraising activities, including setting up the JSRC's | ||||||
7 | first Walk-A-Thon in Houston, Texas, grant initiatives, and | ||||||
8 | live radio shows; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, In 1995, she founded the National Sarcoidosis | ||||||
10 | Society, Inc., an organization that has been very successful in | ||||||
11 | bringing educational awareness, services, advocacy, support, | ||||||
12 | and research initiatives to health care providers, the public | ||||||
13 | at large, elected officials, and to its many networking | ||||||
14 | partners, such as the African American Family Research | ||||||
15 | Institute and the Minority Women Association; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Glenda Fulton was born on September 24, 1950; she | ||||||
17 | received her education through the Chicago public schools; she | ||||||
18 | attended Drake Grammar School and Oakenwald Upper Grade School, | ||||||
19 | then went on to Forrestville High School and Northern Illinois | ||||||
20 | University; she has acquired expertise and experience in the | ||||||
21 | areas of Certified Nursing Technician, Medical Technician, | ||||||
22 | Mentor, Health Caretaker for HIV and cocaine addicted babies, | ||||||
23 | Rehabilitation Nursing, and Hospice; she was the Head Volunteer | ||||||
24 | for the Chicago Board of Education and the P.T.A. Advisory |

1 | Committee for Grammar, Elementary, and High Schools, as well as | ||||||
2 | the John Hope Community Academy and Martin Luther King High | ||||||
3 | School; she was a volunteer for the Northside Chicago Boys and | ||||||
4 | Girls Club of America; she is a surrogate parent for the | ||||||
5 | Department of Children and Family Services and the Board of | ||||||
6 | Education; she has served on several boards and committees on | ||||||
7 | the national, regional, State, and local levels; she is the | ||||||
8 | Chairperson for the Regional Organ Bank of Illinois (now known | ||||||
9 | as the Gift of Hope); she has been a volunteer for the | ||||||
10 | AmeriCorp Vista Illinois Institute of Technology, The National | ||||||
11 | Institute of Health, the National Heart Lung and Blood | ||||||
12 | Institute, and the Public Interest Organization; she is a | ||||||
13 | member of the Chicago Center of Excellence in Health Promotion | ||||||
14 | Economics; she developed a task force with the Chicago | ||||||
15 | Department of Public Health and Commissioner Terry Mason; she | ||||||
16 | has acquired many accolades, trophies, certificates, plaques, | ||||||
17 | citations, awards, and personal letters of commendation from | ||||||
18 | First Proclamation on Sarcoidosis in Detroit, Michigan, the | ||||||
19 | National Sarcoidosis Society Bernie Mac and Nike Shoe Giveaway | ||||||
20 | in 2002, the 4Women.gov Women Day Conference 2006, and the | ||||||
21 | Martin Luther King Youth Program in January 2007; and
| ||||||
22 | WHEREAS, Glenda Fulton is married to Charles E. Skillom; | ||||||
23 | she is the mother of 3 daughters, Sheree Fulton-Jackson, | ||||||
24 | Gernard Fulton, and Shetanys Fulton; she is the grandmother of | ||||||
25 | Darrius Fulton, Nada Johnson, Chanel Jackson, Sydney Jackson; |

2 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
3 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||

honor Glenda Fulton for her fight against sarcoidosis, for | ||||||
5 | receiving accolades from Mothers Informing Mothers | ||||||
6 | International and wish her continued health and happiness in | ||||||
7 | the future; and be it further

8 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be

9 | presented to Glenda Fulton as a symbol of our esteem and | ||||||
