| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of J.P. | ||||||
| 4 | "Buck" Gordon of Peoria, who passed away on January 31, 2016; | ||||||
| 5 | and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, J.P. Gordon was born in Cruger, Mississippi to | ||||||
| 7 | Willie and Ellen (nee Randle) Gordon on May 15, 1934; he was | ||||||
| 8 | baptized at Gordon Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Cruger; | ||||||
| 9 | he received his education at Meeks Elementary School in Cruger | ||||||
| 10 | and Roosevelt Junior High School in Peoria, where he relocated | ||||||
| 11 | to in 1950; he married Freida Barbara Ferguson on January 9, | ||||||
| 12 | 1954; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, J.P. Gordon worked as a machinist at Keystone Wire | ||||||
| 14 | and Steel for over 27 years, retiring in 1985; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, J.P. Gordon was a "Golden Member" (50 years) of | ||||||
| 16 | New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Peoria; he | ||||||
| 17 | enjoyed fishing, gardening, hunting, bowling, and spending | ||||||
| 18 | time with his family; he was an avid traveler and traveled | ||||||
| 19 | throughout the United States with his wife by car; he often | ||||||
| 20 | visited the sick, his sister, Art, and his favorite boys at the | ||||||
| 21 | local McDonald's; he organized the first Gordon/Randle | ||||||
| 22 | Reunion, and, at the 2010 reunion, he received an award for his | ||||||

| 1 | leadership; and
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, J.P. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
| 3 | and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, J.P. Gordon is survived by his wife, Freida; his | ||||||
| 5 | son, James Patrick Gordon; his 4 daughters, Deborah Gordon, | ||||||
| 6 | Imogene (Jeanie) Simmons, Pamela Gordon, and Gwendolyn (Rene) | ||||||
| 7 | Johnson; his sister, Willie Mae (Artis) Gordon Hopson; his 6 | ||||||
| 8 | grandchildren, Robert Davis, Carthel Johnson, Dionne Gordon, | ||||||
| 9 | Jamie Johnson, Jimmel Simmons, and Danielle Gordon; his 19 | ||||||
| 10 | great-grandchildren; and his 2 great-great-grandchildren; | ||||||
| 11 | therefore, be it

| 12 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 13 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 14 | mourn the passing of J.P. "Buck" Gordon, and extend our sincere | ||||||
| 15 | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
| 16 | him; and be it further
| ||||||
| 17 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 18 | presented to the family of J.P. Gordon as an expression of our | ||||||
| 19 | deepest sympathy.
