HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate State Representative and
4Assistant Minority Leader Grant Wehrli on his distinguished
5service to Illinois' 41st District and the people of Illinois;
6and
7 WHEREAS, Representative Wehrli was a member of the Illinois
8House of Representatives from 2015 to 2020 and served the body
9with honor and distinction; and
10 WHEREAS, During his three terms, Representative Wehrli
11served the people of DuPage and Will Counties with leadership
12and bipartisanship; and
13 WHEREAS, Representative Wehrli is a lifelong resident of
14Naperville, with a rich family history dating back to the
151840s; he attended District 203 Schools; he attended the
16Florida Institute of Technology and Southern Illinois
17University at Carbondale, where he studied Aviation Management
18and Aviation Flight; and
19 WHEREAS, Prior to serving in the General Assembly,
20Representative Wehrli served as a councilman for the City of
21Naperville from 2005 to 2014; prior to that, he was the

1chairman of the Naperville Planning Commission; and
2 WHEREAS, Representative Wehrli also previously served on
3the Naperville Development Partnership, the Naperville
4Riverwalk Board, the Naper Settlement Museum Board, and the
5DuPage Mayors and Managers Legislative Committee; he coached
6Naperville Park District soccer, Little League, YMCA
7basketball, and St. Raphael youth football; he studied at the
8National Outdoor Leadership School; and
9 WHEREAS, Representative Wehrli took his seat in the House
10of Representatives in January 2015; in recognition of his
11leadership, he was elevated to the position of Assistant
12Minority Leader in 2018, where he served as part of the
13nine-member House Republican Leadership Team; and
14 WHEREAS, During his six years of service, Representative
15Wehrli served as the ranking Republican on the Labor & Commerce
16and Cities & Villages Committees; he also served on several
17influential House committees, including the House Executive
18Committee; and
19 WHEREAS, Representative Wehrli always promoted honest
20dialogue on all points of view on legislative issues and was a
21fierce advocate of balanced budgets and responsible spending;

1 WHEREAS, Representative Wehrli was a leading voice in the
2General Assembly for ethics reform, and he sponsored or
3co-sponsored dozens of bills that would improve behavioral
4standards for elected officials; and
5 WHEREAS, Representative Wehrli was a strong voice of
6support for the State's most vulnerable populations and
7sponsored several pieces of legislation to improve the quality
8of life for individuals and families living with developmental
9disabilities and autism; he also promoted legislation to
10improve circumstances and wages for the frontline workers who
11provide care and services to the developmentally disabled and
12autistic community; and
13 WHEREAS, Representative Wehrli was the leading Republican
14voice in Springfield for environmental protection; and
15 WHEREAS, Representative Wehrli passed several pieces of
16taxpayer-friendly legislation, including pivotal pension
17double-dipping bills that prohibited two classifications of
18state workers from taking advantage of loopholes within the
19Illinois pension system; and
20 WHEREAS, Over the last six years, Representative Wehrli
21ushered 102 bills into law as the chief sponsor, passed 66

1resolutions, and championed dozens of other bills that became
2laws as a chief co-sponsor or sponsor; and
3 WHEREAS, Representative Wehrli has been honored with a
4multitude of awards and recognitions during his time in the
5General Assembly, including the Guardian of Small Business
6Award from the Illinois branch of the National Federation of
7Independent Businesses, the Perfect Scorecard for
8Environmental Stewardship Award from the Illinois
9Environmental Council, the Champion of Free Enterprise Award
10from the Illinois Chamber of Commerce, the TMA Perfect Score
11Award from the Illinois Technology & Manufacturing
12Association, and the Friend of Manufacturing Award from the
13Illinois Manufacturers' Association; and
14 WHEREAS, Representative Wehrli is the husband of Sharon and
15father of their sons, Jake and Luke; therefore, be it
16 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
17HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
18we congratulate State Representative Grant Wehrli on making a
19positive difference in the lives of the people he represented
20in the 41st District, in DuPage County and Will County, and
21across Illinois, and we wish him all the best in his future
