HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The social work profession is dedicated to
3enhancing the well-being of others and meeting the basic needs
4of all people, especially the most vulnerable in our society;
5and
6 WHEREAS, Social workers embody this year's Social Work
7Month theme, "Social Workers: Leaders. Advocates. Champions";
8and
9 WHEREAS, The social work profession is expected to grow
10faster than average over the next seven years, with more than
11649,000 people expected to be employed as social workers by
122024; and
13 WHEREAS, Over 20,000 licensed social workers are present
14throughout our State, including in state and local government,
15schools, universities, social service agencies, the military,
16health care and mental health organizations, and owning and
17operating numerous private practice small businesses; and
18 WHEREAS, Social workers are the largest group of providers
19of mental health services in Illinois and the U.S. Department
20of Veterans Affairs is one of the largest employers of social
21workers holding advanced degrees; and

1 WHEREAS, Social workers are present in times of crisis,
2helping people overcome issues such as death and grief and
3helping people and communities recover from natural disasters
4such as floods and hurricanes; and
5 WHEREAS, Social workers have pushed for decades to ensure
6rights for all, including women, African Americans, Latinos,
7people who are disabled, people who are LGBTQ, and various
8ethnic, cultural, and religious groups; and
9 WHEREAS, The social work profession has helped bring about
10some of the most profound, positive changes in our society over
11the past century, including voting rights, improved workplace
12safety, minimum wage increases, and social safety net programs
13that help prevent poverty and hunger; and
14 WHEREAS, Social workers continue to engage and bring
15together individuals, communities, agencies, and government to
16help society solve some of the most pressing issues of the day,
17including immigration reform, equal rights for all, affordable
18and adequate health care, mental health care, and environmental
19protection; therefore, be it
20 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
21HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we

1declare the month of March of 2018 as Social Work Month in the
2State of Illinois; and be it further
3 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4presented to the National Association of Social
