HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Sybil Mervis on receiving
4the Illiana Genealogical & Historical Society Foundation's
5annual historical preservation award; and
6 WHEREAS, The Foundation annually recognizes a deserving
7individual who has made significant contributions to preserve
8local history; and
9 WHEREAS, Sybil Mervis moved to Danville 60 years ago when
10she married Louis Mervis and has been an integral community
11volunteer and leader for the last six decades; this recognition
12highlights her steadfast commitment and outstanding
13accomplishments regarding historical preservation on the local
14and family level; and
15 WHEREAS, An author, writer, and memoirist, Sybil Mervis has
16published several books, articles, and pamphlets on local and
17family history; her latest book, In the Middle, details her
18youth growing up in Bloomington; she also penned A Great
19Depression Courtship, about the early lives and courtship of
20her parents; she painstakingly researched the histories of the
21Jewish communities of Danville and Attica, Indiana, which were
22published in various media, including The Heritage magazine of

1the Vermilion County Museum Society, booklets, and a chapter of
2History of Fountain County, Indiana; researching the history of
3her family farm's property near Potomac, she wrote What the
4River Hid, the story of the Meneley Mill on the Middlefork
5River; she has written multiple pamphlets on family history, as
6well as a biography of her late mother-in-law, the Life of
7Martha Mervis; she researched the history of the Danville
8Public Library, which was published in articles in The
9Heritage; she also co-wrote two local civic booklets, Know Your
10City and Danville Digest of Local Government; and
11 WHEREAS, Sybil Mervis is recognized for her contributions
12in the area of historical preservation, which have been
13integrated with her decades-long involvement as a tireless
14advocate for the Danville Public Library, the Vermilion County
15Museum, and local education; she has devoted many hours of
16volunteer time and generously supported these areas over the
17years; therefore, be it
18 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
19HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
20congratulate Sybil Mervis on receiving the Illiana
21Genealogical & Historical Society Foundation's annual
22historical preservation award, and we recognize her
23contributions to preserving the history of our State; and be it
