HOUSE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Robert
"Bob" "Lenny" Lehnhausen of Peoria, who passed away on March 5,
2018; and
WHEREAS, Robert Lehnhausen was born to Frank and Florence
Lehnhausen on September 11, 1919; he attended the Spalding
Institute, where he was senior manager of the athletic
department; and
WHEREAS, Robert Lehnhausen was drafted into the United
States Army in May of 1941; he volunteered for the Aviation
Cadet Program and joined the 44th Bomb Group of the 8th Air
Force; for the next 27 months, he served as a combat bomber
pilot and squadron commander in Europe and North Africa; he was
awarded numerous medals and recognitions, including the
Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal, the Purple Heart,
the Soldier's Medal, a European Theatre of Operations medal
with nine campaign stars, and the French Croix de Guerre; he
achieved the rank of Lt. Colonel, was discharged in 1946, and
served in the Air Force Reserve until 1969; and
WHEREAS, Robert Lehnhausen returned to Peoria and helped
his father run the family drapery shop; he was elected to the

Peoria City Council in 1953 and served as mayor from 1965 to
1969; he went on to head the Illinois Housing Authority and the
Illinois Department of Local Government Affairs; in 1973, he
became an officer at Peoria's First Federal Savings Bank, where
he worked until he retired in 1985; and
WHEREAS, Robert Lehnhausen turned his attention to the
stock market over the last several decades of his life,
learning as much as he could, refining his investment
strategies, and passing along his knowledge; and
WHEREAS, Robert Lehnhausen was an active member of St.
Cecilia Parish, and later, St. Jude Parish; in 1995, Peoria
Notre Dame High School awarded him with its Distinguished
Alumnus of the Year award; and
WHEREAS, Robert Lehnhausen was preceded in death by his
parents; his brother, Clark Lehnhausen; his infant son, Robert
Lehnhausen; his daughter-in-law, Cathy (Shannon) Lehnhausen;
and his grandson, Jacob Johnson; and
WHEREAS, Robert Lehnhausen is survived by his wife of 72
years, Elizabeth (Waugh); his children, Mary Jo Lehnhausen
(Arun Pinto), Phillip (Teresa) Lehnhausen, Ann (Jack)
Burtelow, Tom Lehnhausen, Kay (Scot) Ironside, Steven (Karen)
Lehnhausen, and Dave Lehnhausen; his grandchildren, Navin

(Jennifer) Pinto, Kiran Pinto (Cory Morris), Anjali Pinto,
Timothy Lehnhausen (Stephanie Haas), Tobin Lehnhausen, Matthew
Lehnhausen (Priscilla Varela), Tina (Mike) Miller, Jeff (Abby)
Burtelow, Elizabeth (Mike) Bauer, Jim (Mallory) Ironside,
Meredith (Mike) Steininger, Michael (Patricia) Lehnhausen, and
Stephanie Lehnhausen (Scott Shaw); 16 great-grandchildren; his
brother-in-law, Fr. John Waugh; his sisters-in-law, Kathleen
(Phil) Harney and Freddie Waugh; and numerous loving nieces and
nephews; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
mourn the passing of Robert "Bob" "Lenny" Lehnhausen, and
extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all
who knew and loved him; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Robert Lehnhausen as an expression
of our deepest sympathy.
