| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate the Harris Theater | ||||||
| 4 | for Music and Dance in Chicago as they are honored to present | ||||||
| 5 | the first ever Chicago and Midwest appearances of the Paris | ||||||
| 6 | Opera Ballet, considered one of the world's greatest ballet | ||||||
| 7 | companies; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, The June 26 through July 1, 2012 engagement | ||||||
| 9 | launches the Paris Opera Ballet's 2012 North American Tour, | ||||||
| 10 | with their first American performances in more than a decade; | ||||||
| 11 | and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS,
The full 154-member company will perform 2 diverse | ||||||
| 13 | programs, Giselle, and a program of mixed repertoire to include | ||||||
| 14 | Suite en blanc by Serge Lifar, Roland Petit's L'Arlesienne, and | ||||||
| 15 | Le Bolero by Maurice Bejart, accompanied by the Grant Park | ||||||
| 16 | Orchestra in a first-ever collaboration with the Harris | ||||||
| 17 | Theater; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, This engagement is a momentous occasion for the | ||||||
| 19 | City of Chicago, as it secures the City's stature as one of the | ||||||
| 20 | nation's foremost destinations for dance and underscores the | ||||||
| 21 | Harris Theater's role as the City's premier venue to experience | ||||||
| 22 | groundbreaking dance; and

| 1 | WHEREAS, Opened in 2003, the Harris Theater's mission is to | ||||||
| 2 | partner and collaborate with Chicago's emerging and mid-sized | ||||||
| 3 | performing arts organizations to help them build the resources | ||||||
| 4 | necessary to achieve artistic growth and long-term | ||||||
| 5 | organizational sustainability; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, The Harris Theater for Music and Dance was the | ||||||
| 7 | first multi-use performing arts venue to be built in the | ||||||
| 8 | Chicago downtown area since 1929; today, the Theater continues | ||||||
| 9 | to host the most diverse offerings of any venue in Chicago; | ||||||
| 10 | therefore, be it

| 11 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 12 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 13 | we congratulate the Harris Theater for Music and Dance as they | ||||||
| 14 | present the Paris Opera Ballet; and be it further

| 15 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 16 | presented to Michael Tiknis, President and Managing Director of | ||||||
