HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to commend Centro San Bonifacio for
4offering 35 years of remarkable service, leadership, and
5unwavering commitment to the immigrant community in the City
6of Chicago; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Centro San Bonifacio was founded by local
8families as an act of community solidarity in 1991, following
9the closure of the Church of San Bonifacio, with the intention
10of being led by and for the Latin American immigrant
11community, ensuring those in frontline positions hold
12positions of power; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Centro San Bonifacio has grown from its humble
14beginnings in a board member's apartment into a
15self-sustaining pillar of the Northwest side of Chicago,
16currently operating out of its vibrant home at 2959 North
17Pulaski Road; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Centro San Bonifacio's community-run model is
19anchored by Caf� Fenix and managed by Cooperativa Fenix, which
20serves as a gateway to the organization and provides barista
21training for young adults, embodying the spirit of rising from
22the ashes following Centro San Bonifacio's reconstitution in

2    WHEREAS, For more than three decades, Centro San
3Bonifacio's community health workers, known as Promotores de
4Salud, have served as a beacon of hope, utilizing a
5peer-to-peer model to provide vital health education, social
6service connections, and emotional support to families
7navigating new beginnings; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The Together We Shine program, also known as
9"Juntos Brillamos", promotes the psychosocial health of the
10entire family through a broad palette of offerings, including
11youth development, violence prevention, social-emotional
12learning, and an arts academy that celebrates Latin American
13heritage; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Centro San Bonifacio has remained at the
15forefront of social justice through its Illinois Welcoming
16Center and Southern Border Arrivals Assistance Team, providing
17critical case management, supplies, and Know Your Rights
18presentations to Chicago's newest neighbors; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Centro San Bonifacio's 35-year milestone is a
20testament to the vision, resilience, and trust that the
21organization has earned by transforming countless lives and
22strengthening the very fabric of the community; therefore, be

2    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
3HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
4we commend Centro San Bonifacio on 35 years of offering
5extraordinary service to the immigrant community of Chicago;
6and be it further
 
7    RESOLVED, That we honor the passion of Centro San
8Bonifacio's leadership, staff, and volunteers, and we wish
9them continued growth and inspiration in the years ahead; and
10be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to Centro San Bonifacio as a symbol of our esteem and
13respect.
