| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death | ||||||
| 3 | in both men and women in the United States; and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, Former smokers and people who have never smoked | ||||||
| 5 | comprise the majority of new cases of lung cancer each year; | ||||||
| 6 | and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, 70% of new lung cancer cases will be diagnosed at | ||||||
| 8 | a late stage, with a 15% 5-year survival rate; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Early lung cancer diagnosis and management | ||||||
| 10 | protocols currently exist, but have not been embraced | ||||||
| 11 | nation-wide as the standard of care; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Funding for lung cancer research falls far short | ||||||
| 13 | of that for other, less fatal diseases; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 14 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 15 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 16 | designate November of 2010 as "Illinois Lung Cancer Awareness | ||||||
| 17 | Month" in the State of Illinois in order to raise awareness of | ||||||
| 18 | lung cancer and its effects on Illinois residents and their | ||||||
| 19 | families; and be it further

| 1 | RESOLVED, That we urge the citizens of this State to help | ||||||
| 2 | make lung cancer a national public health priority and offer | ||||||
| 3 | compassion to people with lung cancer.
