HOUSE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Latonia
Dunkin, who passed away on February 2, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Latonia Dunkin was born on May 6, 1967 in East St.
Louis to Carol Dunkin and Joseph Johnson; she attended the
Edward Jenner Elementary Academy of the Arts and Near North
Career Metropolitan High School where she majored in wood shop;
and
WHEREAS, Latonia Dunkin attended the Cannella School of
Hair Design and became a hair stylist; and
WHEREAS, Latonia Dunkin enjoyed singing, dancing, and
joking around; she loved playing with her nephews and nieces
and spending time with her grandchildren and "newlawell", her
granddaughter; and
WHEREAS, Latonia Dunkin was preceded in death by her
father; her grandmother, Gertie Dunkin; her uncles, Alfred and
Keith Dunkin; her aunt, Augusta Smith; her cousin, Amerise
Smith; and her mother-in-law, Betty Newman; and
WHEREAS, Latonia Dunkin is survived by her mother; her

childhood sweetheart, Charles Newman, Sr.; her son, Charles
Newman, Jr.; her daughters, Kanika and Chareese; her
grandchildren, Deonna Bullock and Kayden Bullock; her sisters,
Latasha Dunkin and Quiana Newman; her brothers, Joseph, State
Representative Ken (Yolanda), Ruben, and Michael; her
step-brothers and step-sisters; her aunt, Edith Moore; her
uncle, William Dunkin; her sister-in-law, Yolanda Dunkin; her
nieces and nephews, Sacha, Lashawn, Michael Jr., Kendall,
Jaylen, M'kiyah, Kennedy, Antwan, Makayla, Michael, and
Ahmajay; and her best friends, Lisa Springfield and Wilma
Barners; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
we mourn the passing of Latonia Dunkin, and extend our sincere
condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
her; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Latonia Dunkin as an expression of
our deepest sympathy.
