HOUSE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Fifty years ago, 20 million people peacefully
demonstrated in favor of environmental reform and demanded that
government protect the health of our people; and
WHEREAS, Earth Day 1970 is among the largest civic
engagement events in human history; and
WHEREAS, April 22, 2020 is this year's Earth Day and marks
the 50th anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental
movement; and
WHEREAS, The students of Half Day School in Lincolnshire
will stand in solidarity with environmental activists
throughout the world by organizing an Earth Day March on April
22, 2020 at 3:30pm, starting at the Vernon Area Public Library
and ending at the old Fresh Market parking lot; and
WHEREAS, At the end of the march, the students of Half Day
School will hold a rally focused on protecting the environment;
they will collect reusable and recyclable items such as plastic
grocery bags, markers and crayons, old toothbrushes and empty
toothpaste tubes, old t-shirts and thread, and usable pairs of
shoes; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
we commend the students of Half Day School for organizing an
Earth Day March and for their eagerness and willingness to make
a positive difference in the world; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to Half Day School as a symbol of our esteem and
respect.
