2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to recognize the honorable work that the | ||||||
4 | organization Kayla's Hope Foundation is accomplishing in our | ||||||
5 | communities; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Kayla's Hope Foundation was founded in 2018 after | ||||||
7 | Kayla Lehmann lost her battle to depression at the age of 15; | ||||||
8 | her parents and sister were devastated and knew they had to do | ||||||
9 | something about the current stigma that surrounds mental | ||||||
10 | health; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Kayla's Hope Foundation aims to remove the stigma | ||||||
12 | that surrounds mental illness while assisting those who are | ||||||
13 | struggling and to offer hope to those who need it most; its | ||||||
14 | goal is to reach others who may be experiencing a reality like | ||||||
15 | Kayla's and give them the hope and help needed for a brighter | ||||||
16 | future; and

17 | WHEREAS, Kayla's Hope Foundation's motto, It's OKAY to not | ||||||
18 | be OKAY, is a statement designed to show people that it is okay | ||||||
19 | to talk, okay to feel, and okay to seek help and feel | ||||||
20 | comfortable doing so because they are not alone; and

21 | WHEREAS, Kayla's Hope Foundation has raised nearly $300k |

1 | to help impact communities and carry out its goals; it has | ||||||
2 | partnered with counseling services to provide financial | ||||||
3 | assistance to those without proper mental health coverage so | ||||||
4 | those in need can obtain adequate services and has created | ||||||
5 | local partnerships with mental health services and Suicide | ||||||
6 | Prevention Services in Batavia to provide funding for | ||||||
7 | education, training, and adolescent counseling; and

8 | WHEREAS, Kayla's Hope Foundation has provided multiple | ||||||
9 | contributions to help schools and students in their efforts to | ||||||
10 | support mental health, contributing to Hope Clubs, sponsoring | ||||||
11 | mental health presentations, and donating to orchestra | ||||||
12 | departments; it has also created a college scholarship program | ||||||
13 | for students of St. Charles East and North, Geneva, and | ||||||
14 | Batavia High Schools to provide opportunities for students | ||||||
15 | that have an interest in studying music, literature, or | ||||||
16 | psychology; therefore, be it

17 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
18 | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
19 | we recognize the honorable work that the organization Kayla's | ||||||
20 | Hope Foundation is accomplishing in our communities and offer | ||||||
21 | our sincere condolences to Kayla Lehmann's family for their | ||||||
22 | tragic loss; and be it further
