HOUSE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of Illinois House of Representatives
wish to congratulate Arlene Norsym on the occasion of her
retirement after 30 years of dedicated service to the students,
faculty, and alumni of the University of Illinois at Chicago;
and
WHEREAS, Arlene Norsym became the Assistant Dean of
Engineering at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1985;
as Assistant Dean of Engineering, she worked to establish
programs, promote organizations, and create networking
opportunities to help ensure that students would receive the
most from their degrees; and
WHEREAS, In 2000, Arlene Norsym was appointed to serve as
Vice President of the University of Illinois Alumni Association
and Associate Chancellor for Alumni Relations, a position that
allowed her passion for the University of Illinois system and
her fellow alumni shine most brightly; and
WHEREAS, Over the past 15 years, Arlene Norsym has used
marketing campaigns, newsletters, and promotional events to
raise visibility about the Alumni Association on campus and to
create invaluable programs and events like the Pier Room and
Circle Lounge displays; she has done so through budget

challenges and with limited financial support, making her
achievements that much more impressive; and
WHEREAS, During her time at the University of Illinois at
Chicago, Arlene Norsym has advocated for necessary University
programs and events, expanded alumni involvement and
recognition, and, above all, celebrated the accomplishments of
UIC students; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
congratulate Arlene Norsym on her retirement and thank her for
all she has done for the students, faculty, and alumni of the
University of Illinois at Chicago; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to Arlene Norsym as a symbol of our thanks and
appreciation for her service to the University of Illinois at
Chicago community.
